Im asking this question because of rumors ive been hearing around. It seems that I dont have enough to be a "competitive" applicant. I have a BS, 4.0 in the core science pre-reqs, plenty of volunteer work; community, hospital, etc. and I have an externship at a local hospital in the pharmacy. It just seems that (from other people) this wont be enough to apply. My question is that, what am i missing. Next semeser I am applying to be a SI for biology, which i think I have a very good shot at getting. My question is what else does anybody think i need to do to be a competitive applicant. Any feedback will help, My first school of choice will be Purdue.

Thanks.

What about research work? Is it essential to do do research work? Thanks.

Also.. how well do you communicate with people.
I've had friends with better stats than yours that couldn't hold a light conversation with anyone and have been rejected outright from numerous schools. Even though people don't believe it, the interview is HUGE. Best of luck to you.

I think my communication is pretty good, I worked in sales for 3 years, so communication isn't a problem for me. Thanks for the feedback. I think im just freaking out because I heard someone say that its harder to get into pharm school than med school, and people with my stats get turned away all the time.

I don't think it's harder to get into pharm school than med school. Your stats look fine, just do well on the PCAT. 🙂

No, pharmacy school is easier to get in than med school. You do not have to have the commitment of volunteer work and service that you need for med school.

Also, pharmacy schools are willing to forgive a few grades while med schools are not.

And furthermore, the PCAT is infinitely easier than the MCAT!!!

At UF, you can still get into their pharm school with just prereqs from a community college with mostly A's and a few B's and a 90+ PCAT.

At UNC, I know there are people who only completed two years of coursework at NC State with a 3.8 GPA and got in.
