Do they guarantee you into med school or does it only help? Which are the schools that have these programs?

What exactly are linkage programs?

Nothing is a guarantee, not even linkages.
Linkage basically means that the program you're attending has a relationship with a certain medical school or list of medical schools. This relationship allows you to be admitted to a specific school, so long as you meet that schools required minimum post-bacc GPA and MCAT, without taking up another year of your life in the open pool.
If it's any easier to get into a medical school through linkage than in the open pool, it is only slightly so (I say this, but I have only heard anecdotally).
I can't really provide you with a list of every school that has linkages, and I'm not sure if one exists, but if you provide us with your stats/ec's and whether you're looking at a career changing post-bacc or an SMP, then we might be able to help you out. I don't know the nitty-gritty of linkages, but information about which schools offer them can be found here: http://services.aamc.org/postbac/. It will take awhile to comb through, but it'll be faster if you're looking at a narrow set of regions or program types. Seems up-to-date, too.

Linkages are iffy at best.
Do not bank on it at all.
Move forward as if you are going to be a regular applicant, and if you happen to get very lucky and a linkage works out, then great.

Think of a Linkage this way. If you go to a bar and meet a girl/guy and you spend two hours trying to get that number but find out that they have a girlfriend/boyfriend and they are in the bathroom. After you bought them 5 drinks.
No but seriously, Dont go to a post bac just for the linkage. I was going to go to UVM post bac. Not well known but they had a linkage to UVM and New England School of Medicine. I then looked at the price of all linkage programs vs. non linkage programs and figured out thats what your are paying for. The UVM linkage has had very very few people get into UVM.
Go where you will get the best grades and save the most money. Just my 5 dollars worth.

Some of the linkages from the top programs are pretty much guaranteed (GW from the top 3 programs). Some of them are not.
