As u figured from my title, i am a newb when it comes to residency. I was wondering how many years of residency after med school in say... radiologist or oncologist??

Yes. No.
 
Different fields have different reqs. ER is 3 or 4 yrs all in ER. General Surg is 5 yrs of G Surg.. Every field is different. If you really want to learn about all the different fields read "Iserson's Guide to getting into a residency" he talks about the length of almost every imaginable path.
 
I second Iserson's book - a very helpful and useful read.

There are some good FAQs in these forums on basic residency information too.
 
I'm always a little bit shocked when med students don't know this stuff. I knew all about this when I was a freshman in undergrad. Maybe I'm just obsessed. 😛
