Hello,

I am VERY concerned that I am going to end up with an F or a D on my post-bacc transcript in bio. I have an awful prof whose multiple choice tests are killer. I study very dilligently. The worst part is I already took one year of bio frosh year 8 years ago, and got B's. I was re-taking now to get A's. But I got a 78 on the first test and just had an awful second test today. This prof fails a good chunk of his class.

Is my pre-med career over? That would be horrible. I have a 3.6 post-bacc GPA and a 3.4 ugpa. What should I do? It's too late to withdraw without getting a WF on my transcript.

Help!

Don't blame the prof, although I hated mine for intro bio too!
Intro Bio is tough. How are you studying for the tests? When I took intro bio, it was the first time I had ever seen a lot of difficult concepts, like glycolysis and Krebs and all those fun things. After taking more upper div bio and seeing those concepts again and again, I could actually really LEARN them, but in intro bio it was all so new and the bulk of info was crazy. So I just memorized every damn fact there was to memorize. This isn't the best way to get the job done, definately but I got an A in the class. I made outlines of the chapter, then made flash cards from the outline, then rewrote my flash cards on paper...I know, crazy, but it worked. Bio is a class where you CAN ace it if you want it badly enough. I say, go in there and rock the final. That's the only thing you really can do at this point. And no matter what happens, it isn't over. Good luck!! 🙂

i had to make a 100 on my final to get an A, after my two crap tests, like she said you want it youll get it.

They're right. dont blame the professor or the class.

That said, you should withdraw if you're sure you'll get a D or F. Its much easier to explain a W than a D/F.

Unfortunately there is no final in this class--just three test weighted equally--the last test is just a last test--it's not cumulative. This getting 100 on the final wouldn't save me.

And I can't withdraw. The deadline was after the first test.

Ok...it's ok...If you got a 90+ on the final, what would you calculated final grade be? Remember, intro bio is tough, and often curved.

If you took the same course as a frosh and got a B, why were you retaking it post-bacc? If you receive anything higher than an F, AMCAS only averages the two courses and uses that averaged grade in your GPA calculation. So, even with an A this time, the best you could have hoped for with a B during undergrad was a .2
bump in that class, which would effect your GPA by rougly .008. Now, by getting a D or F you change that B to C or C-, which will drop your cummulative GPA roughly by .132.

You got some really bad advice, sorry.🙁

I decided to re-take bio because a) I took it about 10 years ago and b) I don't remember anything and c) I thought I could get an A this time around.

But it seems to be backfiring. I didn't study at all frosh year in bio and made a B. Now I'm studying a lot and I'm worried about a C or worse.

Tofurkey is very frustrated.

not to be mean or anything, but can you not talk in the third person? i feel like im talking to a rapper.
