What has been your favorite course in undergrad?

Wow, the classes offered at my school seem incredibly dry compared to the courses mentioned here. My favourite class so far is probably Organic Chem (lecture) - I loved my prof and the problems were quite fun to do. I also liked Land, Food and Community which is mostly about food and sustainability, but a few other random topics as well (though I got a horrible mark in that class...oh well it was still fun)

Biochemistry I and II. It really shows me how chemistry is related to vet. med. and every living thing. I don't get a lot of 'life science' classes as a chem. major =(

Most Hated: Physical Chemistry I. I'm taking II this semester and I already hate it.

When I was abroad I took two courses with an AWESOME professor - Jan Gadeyne. One was Latin Writers in Translation and it was fantastic because we were able to read texts, but also get a feel for the Roman culture - can't say enough good things.

The other course was entitled Art and Culture of Classical Rome but it was really an art and archeology class. Man, I worked my butt off in that class! We had a weekend trip to Pompeii and the bay of Naples, which sounds really nice and relaxing - this is a lie. Early wake up calls, walking for 10 hours a day, while Jan is talking non stop and we can't even take notes fast enough to keep up, let alone do it while we're struggling to keep up with this crazy Belgian's pace as he bodychecks tourists out of the way.

Pretty much the exact same for me... WOW, I thought I was the only 1 who really loved biochem. 😀

Favorites:
Adv. Biochem (my major) with the crazy 6-credit Biochem lab, even though it took over my life
O-Chem 😍
Food Science
Medieval History

Least Favorites:
P-chem
Women in U.S. History. I think I was the only non-man-hater in the class and constantly argued with the rest of them.

developmental biology--really interesting information, plus the professor is the biggest science nerd i have ever met, so we relate quite well 🙂 i really liked microbiology and companion animal/pet studies, as well.

least favorite? physics II (also my worst grade in college!).

least favorite: either genetics or statistics. just hated the daily homework assignments and long lectures about simple things and then the profs' tendencies to rush through the important things. mostly it was the daily attendance and homework though - i'm not in 2nd grade.

while i don't think i've had any classes in undergrad where attendance mattered (save a couple courses i took at community college during high school), i go to a very small school (~2400 students) with very small classes (15-30 on average), so the professors always notice when you're missing. it's never a good feeilng to be walking through the student union one afternoon and have a professor stop and say "did you enjoy sleeping in this morning?" 🙂

Loved: Endocrinology and Milk Secretion, Physiology of Reproduction, Sociology Classes in general, and I kind of liked drawing out the cycles for biochem (although the class itself was painful).

Really didn't like: Physics, Organic Chem (the professor's voice was horrendous and got huffy when you asked questions in class).

I like art...so I really enjoyed my art history course and organic chemistry (to me o chem was like drawing art), and I would have to say the class I enjoyed overall the most, was immunology. The atmosphere of the class was amazing we had 14 students and all of us had been in classes with each other before, we had cookies, dounuts, or brownies on every Thursday, and the professor you could tell really enjoyed the subject, she was fantastic at teaching (broke everything down into small details that you could easily understand).

Least favorite - genetics

I enjoyed the 2 courses I took in Ecuador/Galapagos Islands last winter (Tropical Ecology and Flora of the Gal.) but that was probably just because I was having the experience of a lifetime 😀
At my actual school, I really like psychology, most of my Spanish classes, anatomy (really liked lab), animal nutrition and genetics.
I really didn't like orgo (seemed pointless to me cause I will never use it) and physics!!

I'm only a sophomore but my favorites thus far have been Zoology, Organic Chemistry, and Calculus

Least favorite: Statistics... it was just a huge waste of time

Another vote here for both anatomy & biochem - they actually seem applicable!

My favorite was advanced reproductive management. Regular repro was pretty good too. I went to a college within the university that is close knit, and if you were running late, or decided not to show up and go over notes before class, this guy noticed. He also had some pretty good jokes.

glad i'm not the only one...there's some sort of sick joy to be found in knowing that you can draw out just about every pathway in metabolism. i just finished biochem I this semester and was going through my stuff for that class after the final and was amazed at the color-coded beauty of all the cycles i had drawn out 🙂

I made Christmas wrapping paper out of mine!!! I had sooo many sheets of "practice" structures and pathways, I wanted to do something other than throw it all away. Yeah, my family now thinks I'm an even bigger nerd than before 🙄

Physiology, because it ties everything together and I could draw pretty flowcharts. Loved the wrapping paper idea, btw!

I liked micro lab the best for science courses. Other courses that I really enjoyed were animal nutrition, equine management, equine breeding and repro, animal diseases and some dairy classes!

Ha, if I did that it wouldn't phase my family. They already think I'm weird for not getting married and pregnant by 19. Ah, the Southern belle culture... 😛

Organic, Biochem, Microbiology and Medical Bacteriology.

We have the best Micro/Med Bac professor at my school, he makes it so much fun to learn about epidemiology and bacterial diseases!

I am probably the most apathetic about genetics compared to any other course I've taken in undergrad. I felt like most of it was a repeat of other courses I had taken (cell/molecular bio, micro, general bio). So, it wasn't terribly hard since I had seen most of it before, but it made studying for it/paying attention in class difficult since I felt like I already knew most of it and it was too much work to pay attention just to fill in the details 🙂

I took Genetics before all of those except gen bio, and all of it that was in gen bio was like the first week. The rest of it was awesome. I took a graduate Advanced Genetics class as well, which was one of my other favorite classes 😛

Haha, I felt exactly the same way about a cell bio class I took last term. I didn't do too well in it because I had trouble making myself study for it. Way too repetitive for me. How many times do we really need to learn about the nucleus, transcription and translation!!??

So I just started Physical Chemistry this week and I agree with a lot of you that it is really not a very exciting course! I fell asleep in the class today, which was only my second P Chem class:scared:. I do absolutely love my microbiology class though! We're learning about immunology and I think it is very interesting!
