For me, and I've only had 1 interview so far, it is watching the PBL session at LECOM-B.

I had 2 allopathic interviews last time I applied, and nothing I saw then was as inspiring as that.

Watching 2nd-year med students get after it with their differential diagnosis like they've been doing it for years... as a team... it impressed the hell out of me.

I've heard everyone is so impressed with the facilities at KCOM, KCUMB, and DMU. I'm going to check them all out in a couple weeks when I go for my KCOM interview. I'm looking forward it it.

More with your PBL love? One thread wasn't enough?!?!! =)

What I was most impressed with was the fact that I spent an arseload of money on a suit that I haven't wore yet :meanie:--- I got my MSUCOM acceptance before I had any interviews to the MD schools I applied, so I canceled the interviews and withdrew the apps....

LOL:laugh:

Wait, you got accepted at MSUCOM without having to interview so that's why you didn't get to the wear the suit? I didn't realize they accepted without interviewing. Nice.

Eat it. If loving PBL is wrong, I don't wanna be right.

Well said.

I felt the same way after watching my LECOM-B PBL session.

What if those were just well trained actors being paid...it's just too good to be true.

Most impressive things I've seen so far. hhhm..? Well on the top is KCUMB's clinical competency center, next on the list would have to be WVSOM new lecture halls and anatomy lab.

I'm a student at KCUMB and the CCC still impresses me. The way everything is structured there, you actually feel like you are in either a clinic examination room or hospital room. At my Standardized pt interview, the setting was so accurate, I actually felt it was for real. Also, it's nice to be able to try stuff on the patient simulator, although it is a bit weird talking to a mechanical being. It's a good setup.

Im sorry but what is a PBL session?

Problem Based Learning. Search it; there is tons of info.
I am impressed at IS tuition at MSUCOM. It's very reasonable.

Reasonable, yes speet, but still a money sink!!! =P

Didn't you say your medical education is all expenses free... LOL

The student host I talked to said she had taken out 40K both years. So I guess its still high, but not ridiculous as it would be if your an OOS.

I am more impressed with the OOS tuition at MSUCOM! One of the most reasonable schools on the planet Earth!😀

I was really really impressed with the facilities and technology at DMU.. Especially the simulation labs.. I definitely was unsure what to expect and could not stop talking about it for days

Desi~~ I get reimbursed by my "sponsor" practice/doctor after I graduate =) So For the time being--- I gotta go in debt =)

Yeah, I had 3 acceptances prior to my DMU interview and cancelled because I was starting to slip on my classes. In hindsite, I wish I would have gone to check it out. Ive "heard" (read) that DMU is pretty amazing.

UPDATE:

To go along with the PBL session at LECOM-B, which was badass, I have now met Dr. Matayoshi at GA-PCOM. The guy is a great talker, and he is freaking brilliant. He interviewed me, along with another guy, Dr. Pifer, who I also really liked. But Matayoshi really stands out.

http://www.pcom.edu/General_Information/georgia/ga_faculty/matayoshi.html

Some people are just ridiculously smart. Dr. Matayoshi is one of these people. He is a physiology professor at GA-PCOM, and he is also a "career educator". He expressed to me that he tries to design curriculum and courses that will make the students more efficient learners, and he really seems interested in various learning styles. He really grilled me on how I turned my academics around, and what strategies I used to learn to study, etc., and to be honest, I had never really thought about this before. I just kind of tried different things until I found what worked. And it wasn't always the same thing for each class.

Anyway, Dr. Matayoshi has been around a lot, and I suspect that when he feels he has accomplished his goals at GA-PCOM, he'll be on the move again, to be an asset to another school. If I go to GA-PCOM, I hope he is there long enough to be one of my instructors.

Anyway, he is pretty badass. I seriously could have sat there and talked to him for hours. I kind of wish that I had more of an opportunity to talk to Dr. Pifer too, because I have some questions I'd like to ask about OMM, and he is one of the OMM guys, but Dr. Matayoshi seemed to be the main interviewer, and really directed our conversation.

Although I've only gone to two of my interviews so far, I'd have to agree with those that said PBL at LECOM-B. It really was a cool experience watching it all come together and click for the OMS2s.

seriously...that combined with their annoying secondary and LOR requirements. Ended up withdrawing my app.

I was very impressed by KCOM's new building that should be open for next year. Brand new OMM lab, multiple patient simulators, study rooms with plasma screen TVs for studying/watching lab footage, new library... it was pretty impressive.

They also have a student lounge, which I hadn't seen anywhere else.

I'll be at KCOM this thursday for my interview. I am looking forward to it.

I don't mind long interviews, as long as its a good conversation. I could have talked to Dr. Matayoshi and Dr. Pifer at GA-PCOM for hours.

Is it true that students at LECOM-B do not get cadavers because they are all PBL? ( I recently got accepted to LECOM-E, LDP)

Has nothing to do with PBL. They do a prosection lab for anatomy, and there are pros and cons of this. Probably more pros than cons. I think it is a good idea.

I have only had two interviews so far, AZCOM and KCOM, I was so so so . . . impressed with KCOM, the facilities, the faculty, everything. I heard that everyone in the midwest was nice but the faculty there was so nice to me I was amazed! The facilities were amazing, the OMM lab was more than anyone could dream of, the new building was focused completely around the students and made me feel at home. When I got my acceptance I was 99 percent sure I was going there, I still have like 22 apps in cycle and I have a very serious girlfriend going to dental school, and their isn't a dental school anywhere in site, and I still couldn't say no!!! PS if their are any dental schools anywhere close please let me know cause I don't want to leave her but who can say no to KCOM!!

NSU calling me just 8 days after my interview to tell me I was accepted.

Seeing a cadaver and the embryology stuff at Tulane (Yeah, it's MD, but whatever. Still cool.).
