1) How even when they don't know something they act all cocky and make something up... They lack humility (in general) to admit.."hey I don't know and I don't have an opinion, but I do know where to get the answer."

2) They don't know how to talk to patients. You know why that is...because they have no real life experience. Most of them went from High School to College to Med School to Residency to Fellowship and offcourse they think the world revolves around their little specialty

3) Group Think Mentality: no ability in general to think outside the box. So damn conservative. Even when you present them with clear evidence so reticent to accept it and act on it.

Don't you mean "I don't know, but I still have an opinion" - that I'll deliver as if its fact!

geez, where is this all coming from? there will always be good doctors and bad doctors. everyone knows that. there are some ppl who are kinder than others, humbler than others, etc.

anyway, happy holidays! anyone else looking forward to the crazy amt of food coming up?

If you don't like doctors, why are you posting this in pre-medical forum??

Begone, troll

Yeah, and it is absolutely valid and logical to generalize these things to be true of ALL doctors, everywhere, all the time.

How about starting a thread called "What I Really Don't Like About Trolls"

seriously!
and, from what i understand there are a lot of great doctors who know how to properly talk to patients (number 2 in the troll's comment).

Not to burst your bubble, but from what ive learned working customer service, people do not want to hear "i dont know" ever. Especially if it has to do with your health, or where the short order cook misplaced your order.

But (from CS expierence) "I'm not sure, but let me ask a manager," works wonders.

Definitely, not everyone is as nice as you think. Some ppl are real d****. I was a waiter in highschool, they get even worst when they're hungry. :scared:

Hahahahaha! Have you ever spent any time with engineers? They do this ALL THE TIME. Only the jerks are cocky about it, but almost all engineers will make a (more or less) educated guess. The cool thing is that the smart ones are usually right. That's where good critical thinking skills pay off.

Overgeneralization? No. Gereralization, maybe, but not over. I've probably seen at least 30 doctors in my lifetime, and the MAJORITY acted as the OP described. My dad is a doctor, actually, and he holds 2 of the 3 qualities describes. I've had about 5 good doctors in my lifetime. They are few and far between. Perhaps they are taught to think they are Gods. I'm sure we will find out soon enough!

ok, i don't think all doctors fall into those three categories, but it does bring up an interesting point. what does this position require of a person? does it in fact select for mostly ultraconfident people. I know a professor of orthopedic surgeon who says this of surgeons: "often wrong, never in doubt"

Perhaps too much humility in medicine is worse than overconfidence. The stakes are high in medicine at every moment. I don't think this causes someone to develop a strong inner debate when a problem arises.

Ok, sorry for blabbing...you are right though, we will find out.
