One of secondary application essay question is:

[FONT=굴림]What specific experience/exposure have you had with osteopathic medicine? How has this influenced your decision to become an osteopathic physician? (from AT.STILL).

As the title shows, I do not have exposure to osteopathic medicine.
I only have shadowing hours from M.D. doctors.

What should I write???

you could talk about how you learned about osteopathic medicine (unless you are like one of those people who apply to osteopathic schools as backup) and why you decided to choose this career path.

you should really try to find someone to shadow or atleast sit down and talk to (if you haven't done so) if you are serious about osteopathic medicine.

Where you shadowed were there any D.O.s? Surely you talked to some or saw them working alongside their M.D. counterparts?
If not, do you have any friends who have gone to osteopathic medical schools?

Have you ever worked in a health-care setting and seen D.O.s practicing medicine?

I'm not able to come up with much more at the moment, but that should get you some sort of a start.

I didn't have any exposure to "osteopathic medicine" other than working as a paramedic and having contact in the ED with MDs and DOs. I had no idea what the difference was other than the initials. I was honest about it. I wanted to be a good doctor regardless of initials, and I had a clear idea of what kind of doctor I wanted to be. I was fairly successful in my applications.

I agree with ShyRem, and I am sure others have a similar experience; however, I would highly recommend you at least shadow a DO. It makes answering the "Why DO" question a whole lot easier.

In your case, I would write about how you have learned about DO's. Whether it is the Gevitz book, or some other source. You can even say "personal research" or something of that nature.

....As the title shows, I do not have exposure to osteopathic medicine....

If you did not have "exposure" to osteopathic medicine then you would not know it exists. Thus, you could not have applied for a position. You can easily explain how you were "exposed" to osteopathic medicine by explaining where you first heard of it and how you came to the decision to apply.

Thank you all for great advice.

I did talk to D.O. and have heard of it from my undergrad.

Yes, I will explain how I learned about it and why I chose this path.
(It's not my backup. I've applied to 17 DO schools and 2 MD schools. 🙂)
