Applied 9/2 and have heard from more than half of the programs I applied to, so things are going well, but I'm still waiting to hear from OHSU. Last year, they apparently sent out at least one invite on 9/24/09, but so far this year, it doesn't look like anybody here has heard. Anyway, I'm checking my email regularly (umm, obsessively) waiting to hear from them. I'm happy about my other invites and would be thrilled to go to lots of other programs, but I don't feel like my application will be complete until I hear from them.

Anybody else have a program or programs that you're hung up on hearing from?

Ditto on OHSU. Utah, too. I have a sneaky unsubstantiated suspicion they're waiting for Dean's letters. Or, no one on SDN has gotten their first wave of invites... 🙁

last year it was MGH and Columbia. It never came. Bastardos!!!

I am very happy with all the places that have offered me interviews, but I would love to get an interview from MGH, Brown and UCLA. Where are you guys, because I'm here!

Still waiting patiently (or not) for UTSW and Austin.

I was wondering about the dean's letter thing but was thrown because they didn't seem to wait last year. Maybe the person who got the invite in September was an OHSU student or something. And yeah, maybe they've invited tons of people already, none of whom post on SDN. 🙁

I am glad to know I'm the only one sitting around waiting for some invites. Hope we all hear from who we want to hear from soon.

I'm waiting for OHSU too! I'd also love an invite from Vermont and another Cali program or two. I'm getting excited to visit the places I have invites too though! I've never been to most of the cities.

Penn and Pitt would "complete" me, but I'm not going to hold my breath on those. Also waiting on Arkansas, but I hear that they wait for MSPEs before extending invitations.

I'm kinda miffed that I haven't heard from OSU yet, but I suppose there's always an outlier or two.

Grats on UPenn then Cooky!

I'd really like an invite to a D.C. program too, I like the two I app'd to and D.C. is my husband's first choice. I've never been and I'd love the chance to check it out.

Ditto on OHSU. What's the deal?
Also waiting on MGH, Columbia (I heard from an attending that they have not send out any interview invites yet this year....so rest assured colleagues!)
Also waiting on Brown!

This is torture (but oh so fun)!

I'd also like to hear from OHSU....would've liked to hear from U Wash, but they've long sent out invites, myself not included 🙁 I've heard they're not so keen on DOs though, anyone know any different? 😕

What is it about Pitt and OSU that makes will make you "complete"? I just don't know very much about these programs...

Just a silly way of expressing that those are the programs I really want to hear from (think Jerry Maguire). Those are the only ones I'm still holding dates open for, so it would be nice if I could finalize my travel schedule. Fortunately I heard from Penn and OSU today, still waiting on Pitt though.

I just consider Pitt and Penn fantastic programs based on fellowship opportunities, research, location, word of mouth, and other factors. I think it's hard to judge the quality of the fit beyond that until interview day.

Waiting anxiously on UCSF. I'm totally stoked about the interviews that I do have, but they're pretty high up on my (pre-inteview) list of places I could see ranking highly.

Would like to get MGH and Brown (really want to move back to the northeast!). Kind of starting to freak out b/c I've scheduled most of my interviews in Dec/Jan and now they are starting to get really close together and if they all interview on the same days I'm going to end up having to try to move interviews or choose between programs... (assuming I get more interviews, which obv might not happen). I think I applied to too many schools but couldn't choose... still can't choose where I want to interview.... oh well.

My intern today told me that his friend from med school had received an interview from MGH for psych residency, but idk if that's totally accurate since many people who aren't applying in psych confuse the Harvard programs. Fingers crossed!

I've got 15 scheduled right now. Applied to way too many and cancelled several others. Unfortunately, a preponderance of them seem to only offer interviews on Fridays, which is problematic since I only have about 4 Fridays to choose from (Thanksgiving and Christmas get in the way). I really don't have any open space left (unless early February is an option; haven't heard from any programs that interview past January), and making changes at this point is somewhat like playing Jenga. Still, it's a nice problem to have.

Pitt and Penn are both fantastic programs.

I just want to suggest one thing to keep in mind - while it is important to find a good "fit", remember that an interview day is exactly what it is. One single day. When you weigh all the factors in your decision, be careful about how much influence you place on your interview experience.

I ranked my current program first despite having a less-than-stellar experience on my interview day. It had been my pre-application #1 choice, but I didn't get the best feeling about the program, the faculty, or the residents during my interview day. Not that I had a bad feeling about them, but things just didn't "click" the way I had expected them to. Meanwhile, there were 2 other programs that blew me away with their interview days; I was very tempted to rank them above my program.

Actually for a while, I did rank them higher than my current program. Then I talked things over with some friends, my family, and my mentor, who all recommended I place my current program first, which I did.

I'm extremely, extremely, extremely glad I did.

Have you ended up feeling like you "fit" since then? I think that is probably really good advice.

Yes, I definitely do feel like I feel like I fit where I am now, though it took a few weeks for me to realize it.

I want California Pacific Medical Center to interview me, especially since I am currently on their away rotation...😛 I love San Francisco to death, wish I could match here.

I don't think it's possible for your intern's friend to have gotten an MGH interview. They sent me an email that said that they don't start reviewing applications until November, and after that, they will send emailed invites in the mail for "several weeks." So, unless your intern's friend is at Harvard Med, this seems kind of unlikely.

I'm also waiting on MGH, but based on their email, I'm not going to start thinking about it until after November 1.

They say the same thing every year. I heard from them about a week before that, and I think that was the first round, so you could possibly expect sometime that previous week before Halloween.

I'm still waiting on California Pacific Medical Center, UCSF, and Stanford (very excited about my San Mateo interview, though).

The way everyone is talking is making me nervous. Are we really getting near the end of when most places send out invitations? My last letter of rec was just put into ERAS this past Friday (some things came up in the Dr.'s personal life that delayed it), so my file wasn't complete until then. I had assumed that interview invites would still keep coming pretty solidly until late October or so.

I don't think we're near the end! I think SDN peeps are just hyper-vigilant. 😀

I'm waiting on OHSU as well. I did an away rotation there last month and one of the psych residents told me that he didn't get an interview until late in the season and he had to scramble to get together his travel plans. He seemed to think that OHSU just sends out applications later than other schools so do not fear.

As for other schools, I would still love to hear from Cambridge, Institute of Living, and UW-Madison. We shall see, I guess.

Also keep in mind that as the interview seasons wanes people will be cancelling interviews. I thought I was done with interviews in early December and out of nowhere I received an invite near the end of January from the program I ended up ranking #2.

It's one of the programs mentioned in this thread and one I wouldn't have expected anyone to cancel an interview at.

I absolutely love my invites so far... but I'm still really, really hoping to hear from Colorado. I really want Pittsburgh and Arizona too.

Can't have everything, but those 3 would be the icing on the cake for my interview season.

Has anyone heard anything about IOL/HH? They are ranked in US NEWS but I haven't heard much about them on this forum.

I'm glad there are so many people waiting to hear from OHSU, I know some of y'all are really strong candidates so I have the feeling they just haven't sent invites out yet. 🙂

Did anyone else apply to Mayo, Cleveland Clinic or Vermont? Three of my favorites and so far I haven't seen any action on our invite thread.

The agony! OHSU Where are you?

On a light hearted note: OHSU = Obstinate to House Staff Usurpers

I would love to hear from UCLA. If they don't send out invites until November it will be so hard to reschedule interviews so I can make that one (if I get an interview that is).

Last year it was around late October/early November that I started contacting programs for interviews - and it worked with 3 great programs that had not originally offered me interviews - but had to others (often within a day of me expressing interest). My first choice (where I matched) probably would not have given me an interview had I not expressed interest.

So if you really want to go somewhere (that has already sent out interviews)...let them know!

What did you say to them?

Something like, "I'll be in the area and would like to come by"
or "I really like your program and would love the chance for an interview"?

no I didn't say I'd be in the area. I just said I was really interested in their program (listing whatever reason I liked their program) and really hoped they'd consider me for an interview.

Great, thanks! I'm inspired. I'll try it and see if anything happens.

I actually called UCLA the other day b/c I was wondering about their interview schedule. They told me that they're going to be interviewing on Tues and Thurs from the end of Nov (I think they said the 17th but don't quote me on that) until Jan 14, except for the last 2 weeks of Dec. Hope that helps.

Did you contact the program coordinator or go directly to the program director?

I think I mostly contacted the PDs (maybe a couple coordinators), but the interviews I got were after emailing the PDs for sure.

Thanks gmailqueen, that is helpful.

I would also love to hear from UCSF. I heard they have a secondary application which they use to decide if you get an interview. I haven't received an invitation to fill out the secondary.

The secondary application is on their website. You don't receive an invitation to fill it out, you just fill it out and email it to them. I doubt they use it to decide if you get an interview, b/c it doesn't really ask for much information, but I think they do require it to consider your application "complete".

It's here:

I sent an email to a program director today. I didn't get offered an interview right then, but he wrote that I'd almost certainly get one in the next couple of weeks. Whether sending the email helped my case or not, I don't know, but if nothing else, it gives you a better sense of where you stand, and it certainly can't hurt.

Anyone know what's up with Cornell and UCLA?

Seriously considering four programs, and these are two of them.

I don't know about Cornell (or UCLA, but I didn't apply there). The one I'm really waiting for, though, is Stanford.

I believe that UCLA starts sending invites after the MSPE goes out.

I would love to hear from University of Vermont and Loma Linda.

Has anyone besides Dr. Bagel heard from UCLA? It's the only program I haven't heard from yet... would like to finalize my travel plans, etc...

UCLA is an exception to this rule. They are famous for screwing up people's invitations (by famous, I mean it's happened to about five people over the past few years on here). Feel free to contact the program coordinator by email and expect her to ask you why you haven't scheduled your interview yet, to be firmly defiant when you say you never got an email inviting you to interview, and to act like this hasn't happened 40 times this season. 😉

Thanks for the tip. Called today and they said that I'm still being reviewed, and they're still looking over the last batch of applications, but that I should know by tomorrow... They must be doing this alphabetically or something, b/c I submitted my application on 9/3...

I have 7 interviews lined up (had about 14 offers so far) and would be willing to relocate to all of them, but I would still like to hear from Harvard - Longwood. Anyone know if they are still giving out interviews? I am heading to Boston 2 times in December and it would be great to coordinate it for one of those times.
