What is a 4.0 in US Allopathic schools?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Most medical schools use pass/fail/honors. In those schools they might set a guaranteed pass line (say 75%), or do it based on a bell curve.

AOA is usually given to the top 10% of the medical class and calculated by test scores/number of honored classes/etc..

pass/fail for us and many other schools. 70 percent and up is pass, no curve. no aoa.

clinical rotations in years 3 and 4 are honors, high pass, pass, fail or something like that.

what is AOA i googled it and can't find what it stands for
