What is a CL doc?

Everybody probably knows this already which is probably why I can't find a definition, and of course I can't find the thread again. For some context, someone suggested "CL" if you are interested in both psychiatry and endocrinology, as you can be the one to say the behavior issue was because of this or that medical condition that was overlooked, etc... So what is CL? I Googled it and keep getting things like "controllable lifestyle" about choosing a specialty based on lifestyle. Not exactly what I'm looking for. I was thinking maybe they meant Clinical Lab. Is that it's own specialty?

Refers to a psychiatrist whose specialty is handling inpatient consultations for patients hospitalized with other issues, and balancing the inpatient medical issues with the psychiatric issues.

Oh, this sounds really interesting. I've heard of a psychosomatic fellowship after psych residency. Is it the same thing?

I'm kind of interested in both since endocrine disorders can sometimes go undiagnosed for a while if the behavior symptoms show up first. I've seen first hand repeatedly even primary care docs reach for psych meds based just on what the patient says before running a single test.

That's more ruling out medical causes of behavioral issues than actually treating endocrine disorders. Most often, people are referred to endocrinology because the PCP (or someone) ran endocrine labs that turned out abnormal. So yeah, I'd agree that consult psych is probably best if that's what you're really interested in. Or you can be a PCP who has a focus on mental health (one of the pediatricians I used to work for had a large ADHD practice because that was one of his interests).
