too many times, i see dentists ID listed as DMD or D.M.D. and on paper.

Is there a difference putting in the periods and not doing it? Which one is more appealing and more professional?

the D.M.D means your a female dentist. it's obvious because they get periods

No difference what so ever. Each school determines which one they choose to award to their graduates.
