In my search of various pain fellowships, I am trying to see what skills that can be taught or learned why training make a significant impact in translating into abilities or skills that will make me a successful private practice pain doc. The two main reasons in my mind to go back into training (anesthesiology background) are to 1) become board certified and 2) learn as many procedures as I can. I was hoping the attendings could provide me with what they felt was helpful in becoming a success, such as exposure to various patient populations, the reputation and the connections associated with going to a prestigious fellowship program, exposure to SCS implantation and not only doing trials, exposure to cutting edge procedures, working mainly in hospital versus an outpatient facility, etc.

I am not trying to be crude but I got lost in the prose and dont know what you are really asking. Can you simplify your questions?

what during your training do you think helped you become a better pain doc.

Reading and getting proficient with pain procedures is number one. I closely watched the practice styles of each of my attendings and incorporated a few things from each of them in my practice. All of my attendings were completely different concerning med management, types of stimulators used, etc. Do not expect to learn business management in fellowship. If anything I would advise you to do the opposite of what they tell you in this regard.
