or at least what in ur opinion are the lesser of two evils here...

An Irish medical college that boasts it can get its students back in the states for residencies?

vs

carribean med schools or med schools like Ponce??

Carribean. Doesn't Ross have the claim of having the most doctors in the US???

First of all, isn't Ponce ACGME accredited and located in the United States? (territory of Puerto Rico) As such it would be a U.S. school and head and shoulders above the other two options. The reason for the low MCAT scores is that most of the applicants speak Spanish not english but they have to take the test in English!

Second, SGU is the top school in the Carribean and has the best rotations and Match. Plus unlike many other schools you are eligible for licensing in all 50 states. (I think Ross and AUC are considered runners up)

If you go to the Royal College of Surgeons or Trinity in Dublin you will have no problem getting a decent residency. I know people who feel there is less stigma associated with these schools than with SGU but I am not sure. SGU is pretty highly regarded.

ok thanks for your replies folks,

yeah i mean reason i'mm asking is cuz i flatly don't know at all but am strongly considering applying to each of these places so i was just curious, I don't know exactly how to do mor eresearch on the subject cuz there's always going to be some level of subjectivity involved, i'mm going to try to look up the stats for carribean and places like ponce about what percent of their students get back into the US...

any other opinions out there would be very very welcome

Isn't Ponce considered a N. American LCME approved school? If so, then it's a US school.

As for Europe or Carib, they're both foreign schools and you'll be an FMG. BTW, the big-3.75 carib schools (SGU ROSS AUC Saba and SMU) all say that they can get you clerkships in the US, they also offer clerkships in England. Getting a residency in the US is HIGHLY dependent on getting good step1 scores. Saba even has a resident at Mayo Scottsdale (in FP).

i don't think you will have any problems at all getting a us residency if you go to an irish medical school. they are very good schools. actually, the dean of admissions for ut houston is an irish med school graduate.
