what is part of an optometrist's job description?

I've heard different things...optometrists can't perform surgery, only ophthalmologists can...but I've also heard some optometrists can do minor surgeries, assist with laser surgery, etc (esp in certain states).

Can someone set it straight? Thanks!

OMDs are the ones who promote the "ODs can't perform surgery" thing.

ODs can technically perform certain surgeries such as FB removal which is technically "surgery". But the OMDs claim that surgery involves a knife and/or laser.

I'm really not sure what your point is but if you want a really good definition of what an optometrist is, refer to the AOA website.

I noticed that you are in pre-optometry. How much longer before you go to OD school?

What do you think of the state of optometry today? Do you plan to work for a commercial place once you graduate from OD school? How much debt do you think you will be in once you finally make it into the real world?
