I'm researching possible schools - their pros and cons: It is very easy to find the pros from schools that students are going to. But difficult to find the cons. I'm hoping to get the other side of the story for the different schools. So if you are going to a opt. school, or knowledgable about a certain school.. can you let me know what is something bad about the school - or is it not bad at all.

1) What are the cons of living conditions there? City life? Rural? Rent? Safety? transportation? accesibility to events/organizations, etc...

2) What are the cons regarding the student body? competitive? lazy? friendly? independent? cooperate well? Your confidence in students' knowledge?

3) What are the cons of the curriculum and academic integrity of the school? The board exam passing rate? professors involvement in student's learning? learning style - discussion based or go to class and take note based? opportunities? Do most people go to class or skip? Clinical opportunities?

4) Cons of resources? Both personal and academic resources?

Each school has its pros and cons and I'm just trying to figure out which is a best fit. Please do not flame any school that you dont like. I would appreciate if anyone can reply to any of these questions, thanks!!

Man, so many views, yet no post.

All you're asking is for opinions and personal preference. (Who cares if a student believes his roommate is lazy?)

The rest of the info (ie. passing rates on boards) is already posted in other threads.

- SCCO: nice suburban area, most of the time safe, but there's no real safe place anywhere you go. a classmate just got mugged 2 weeks ago while walking through an alley at midnight after studying at the library.
the campus itself is pretty safe since security guards are always patrolling and there are cameras. but no matter where you go, always take the precautions of safety. fullerton is easy to get around, lots of eateries and stores. not as fast paced as los angeles. usually events are held at or near the school.

- i wouldnt' say we are competitive among each other. we want to do our best, get good grades, do well on boards, become competent optometrists. we study hard and we play hard. there are quite a few smart cookies in my class. there are a handful or so that do have 4.0's. i think mostly everyone is friendly and helpful. overall, i think the students are very knowledgable and i dont' doubt their competency level.

- the thing that annoys me the most about scco is the fact that we have so much material to study for and we only get 20 or so questions on the exam. so really, there's no room for much error. it's hard to get the A's but easy to get hte B's. the nice thing is that tests are pre-set on certain days of the week. and there are weeks where you have 2 exams and 2 proficiencies/practicals all in one. it can get stressful and hectic when we get those weeks. we've only had 2 of those crazy hectic weeks so far. the curriculum gets harder as each quarter passes. some professors are awful and dont' seem helpful at all. i wont' say who. u'll know when u get there. by awful i mean, i have this one professor who seems like he doesnt' care too much about teaching. he just talks so darn fast during lecture and labs. he also gives us difficult practicals. i'm not too fond of him. at scco, you get lectures and labs/discussions for mostly all our classes. most people go to class, but depending on who the professor is, some people skip. i think some of the classes we are taught first year should be done as pre-requisites so that we aren't jam packed with classes in a quarter.

- such as?

Hope that helps.... ok back to studying!
