What is taking LECOM-Erie so long?

Theres another member on SDN Jezz that has been waiting since october or something to hear about LECOM...i think its because the dean is taking a nice long vacation..I didnt apply to lecom..but just reading all of yall complain about this issue is seriously turning me off to this school because it is extremely unprofessional.. dont they have anything better to do than torture their future students..

I don't think that it's all that unprofessional since they told us up front it would take 30 days. That is only a little bit above average for most med. schools. I think the school is so professional that it scares people away (dress code, attendence policy for those who chose LDP, etc.). I'm just glad LECOM didn't lie and say it would only take a few weeks, haha.

Yup, I interviewed a couple of wks ago... they told us that the committee would meet on 12/14 to review completed files.. and that we should hear something back within a month. It's not that long.. but it is a bit torturous!

Going in.. I expected the school to be some dreary place. I actually found the building, rooms, overall atmosphere, etc. to be excellent (minus the gym, the fact that they have four computers hooked to the internet in the library, and lack of wireless access throughout the building although, it is complemented by finding wall jacks everywhere)

Still, it was a pleasent experience and LECOM would be a wonderful place to attend.

Everyone always said that there is nothing to do in Erie, etc. However, I didn't realize that those people haven't lived where I have, lol. I was pleasantly surprised by what Erie had to offer.

yeah, but we'll see if you actually get the letter in 30 days. they told my group three weeks, and it took over five.

I interviewed the same day as Jezzielin, 09/29, but did not get my acceptance until 11/10. Don't expect to hear from them within the time frame they gave you. Most people on SDN had to wait at least 30 days for an acceptance. 😱

elaine morse, the main lady at LECOM, apparently is the only admissions person in the office at this time, or for the last couple weeks..and because of the lack of staff..things are going to come out late..i TOO have been waiting for their decision for a long time..i had interviewed on the dec. 2nd. LECOM is defintely one of two of my top choices..so i really want to know what the decision is. like everyone else is saying though...i would give them a call and see whats up.

There is no point in calling today... I just called the office and the person who directs the calls said that there is no one in the office today, XMAS break, she said to call back on Tuesday. Merry christams and happy holidays everyone!

I am in the same boat as you guys. I interviewed on 11/17, and was told we should hear in a month at the longest and that our files would be reviewed on 11/30. Well five weeks later still waiting. I called on wednesday to see if I could find out when to expect something and was told they would email me the status of my letter, and guess what still waiting and no email. Called again today and got voicemail, but couldn't leave a message as the voicemail was full (there must be alot of people waiting). I asked the secretary if there was anyone in admissions that I could talk to and said to call back on Tuesday. So I am pretty frustrated with the whole thing. I really liked the school and I am giving them the benefit of the doubt, but the professionalism with which my application has been handled leaves a little to be desired. Hopefully next week we will all hear something. Hang in there everyone. I wonder if they are taking so long because they are waiting to see who has sent in deposits as well, and holding letters until they have a better idea of available seats?? I guess I just need to vent a little.

I intervied 10/17 and received my acceptance to PBL on 11/8. So it was a pretty quick turn around time for me.

But hey Jezz, I just freed up a spot. 😀 I accepted my seat at KCUMB. I hope you get in there, it was one of my top schools.

I interviewed on November 4th and just heard back on December 24th that I was accepted. I guess thats a good present. Stick in there, I bugged the lady there so much that she told me they were backed up due to holidays and the Dean being out. That is another reasonf or the 30 days. Also, if you want a good measure of if you got in or not, the envelope should be very thick if you were accepted (about three different letters in there, one signed by the dean).

Sounds like LECOM to me. A friend of mine there did the post bacc program and is now an MS1. Several months into the first semester he gets a letter from the admissions department saying that they need a copy his post bacc transcript from LECOM. I think he highlited "LECOM" and returned the letter.

I got my letter in the mail today and was accepted into the PBL pathway (interviewed 11/17). Very excited to see all of you that decide to attend Erie in the Fall. If it helps, the letter was mailed on 12/21 and got it today 12/27 so it took a while to get all the way out here to Rapid City, South Dakota. Hope this helps you all that are waiting. LECOM won't send you an acceptance letter without having your transcript on file. I know because they kept calling me after I interviewed saying that they can't give me a letter until I send them a copy of my transcript; which I sent to them twice already. I eventually handed it to them in person.
They already had the transcript.

I was under the impression that once you are accepted, you must then forward to any medical school your REAL transcripts, not just the certified copies they have from AACOMAS.

I got accepted to LECOM-PA without any official transcripts - just the info provided by AACOMAS. However, once you are accepted you have to forward official transcripts from ALL colleges attended post high school.

The office staff is very nice but things are set up in a way where it seems that no one ells can do another persons job. So when someone goes on vacation, the work just piles up. It is unfortunate, because it makes the school look worse than it really is.

Yeah the admissions staff seems to me to be very competant. I worked in my undergrad. admissions office for four years so I have some idea of what goes on. Anyone know when everyone in the LECOM admissions office will finally be back from vacation? I assume maybe tomorrow?
