I'll be 27 turning 28 that year as an intern. I'm thinking that maybe too old?

What country are you from?

Most people start residency around that age in the US.

I go to ireland for med school graduating this year and applying next year for residency in 2015. Most people here start residency by the time they are 25-26 so I was wondering if it was the same in the US.

Too old as in compared to my colleagues I was wondering if I'd be older than the average age of interns. Plus the thought of finishing residency only when I am 31 is nauseating for me lol but oh well!

Incoming med students or incoming interns? And what is a AARP membership exactly?

It doesn't matter how old you are. What matters is how old you look, feel, and are perceived. I look like i'm 20-21 even though I'm 26. Still pull 18 year old college girls.

Lol well everyone tells me I look about 18 even though I'm 26 so I don't think that will be an issue. I think its my genes it def runs in my family (looking younger than our age) I hope PD will not have an issue with age tho that's all care about. I hope my chief medical resident is not younger than me.

Interns, as Mt stated, 27.8 is four years older than the average income med student in the US.

That would be very rare, and even if it was the case, why would it matter? You really need to chill out.

And why would your PD have a problem with you being around the average age? That doesn't make any sense.

Well I didn't know it was the average age which was my question in the first place lol! As I stated earlier in Ireland students start residency by age 25 and I would be 2 yrs older than the 'average' in Ireland but I guess this is not the case in the US.

Are you an American citizen?

Age won't be an issue. Even if you are "older", if you get work done, and be a strong team member, noone is going to care.

26 is not too old for an intern! I'm 26(who also looks younger than normal :/) and I feel like one of the youngbloods haha
