I go to a school where we don't have a pharm class, it is intergrated into our organ system based curriculum. Studying from notes alone can get you by in the course, but what is the least amount of Pharm I should know to do well on step 1? Is first aid pharm enough for step 1? Or do I need a dedicated review book, like small Katzung, Lipincott, or pharm recall? Or would these be over kill for step 1? Please help and thanks in advance. Sorry for spelling and grammer mistakes too.

Ok, First Aid is the minimum. Now, you know it's up to you whether or not you just want to do the bare minimum, or....well, like Brian for example has 37 pieces of flare. Ok? And a terrific smile.

hehe 😀 (office space is a great movie)

Bare minimum-

know that aspirin thins the blood and can cause stomach problems, that is the bare minimum. Add more if you feel the need.

🙂

The First Aid section on pharm is seriously all you need to know. Be sure to focus on the section with all the specific side effects (i.e. amiodarone causing thyroid problems, etc.) because they are very high yield.

I had extremely heavy Pharm. content on the Step I and I can honestly say that every answer besides one was somewhere in the Pharm section. It may seem superficial at first, but there is a tremendous amount of material in it. If you *memorize* FA Pharm., I believe you will do very well on the Step I and be equipped for most/all of the questions.

Thanks alot guys/gals I was going to read small Katzung (probably would've taken about 2 month to get threw while also studying for class) but now I'm just going to stick to my class notes and FA. 👍

Yeah, First Aid is top notch when it comes to pharm. If you 'memorize' the pharm from First Aid you'll be prepared for just about anything they will ask you.

That said, don't think you can accomplish that feat in a 1/2 day of studying, pharm should be a significant portion of your Step 1 prep. I'd say like 4 days out of a 4-week study plan.

How well does the pharm FA section prepare you for the COMLEX pharm questions? I know the test is heavy on side efx and I thought the section on adverse efx on drugs was pretty good.
