what is the best way to balance secondaries and MCAT studying?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Bombarded?? I only got 2 so far ohgod ohgod ohgod /SDN

I believe that many overlap, so do them on your off days, assuming that you're not working and have study breaks (which you should)

I received 5 today, but I also applied to a bunch of schools.

Exam is August 5th. I think I'll just dedicate Sundays and nights during the week for the essays.

Getting bombarded with secondary emails and it's a little stressful as I try to study for the MCAT. How should I approach this? Set some time every day to write?
You poor thing, I can't imagine trying to do both. Good luck to you, you are much braver than me.

Most schools don't send secondaries until you receive your MCAT scores. In fact, those schools that auto-sent their secondaries to you just want money at this point. Without your scores, its impossible to size you up. The MCAT is your priority right now, because the rest of your cycle depends on this. Also, if something doesn't work out this time, for some reason, make sure to reapply next year.

Yikes, some of these responses are really unhelpful (and bordering rude)!

OP- many people, myself included, balanced the MCAT with working full-time jobs + other commitments. It can be done! Just get into a routine. I worked until 4pm, ran for an hour after work, then studied for a while after showering and dinner. I usually studied for the MCAT from 6:30-9:30 M-F and around 8 hours on Saturday and Sunday.

I'd recommend treating the MCAT as your full-time job and studying throughout the day, then sitting down to do some secondaries a little bit each night and maybe a little more on weekends. I think secondaries are only bad the first two weeks and after that you end up recycling a lot of the essays you already wrote. You can do this! And whether you're retaking or testing for the first time, good luck!
