Anybody have an idea of the life expectancy of Pharmacists?

I'm asking this because of the video I watched in Psychology about Sleep and all that it entails. Anyways, Truck drivers average age of death were in the high 50s. From what I have read, Pharmacists have high stress, spend a lot of time on their feet, work shift work (Which supposedly takes 10 years off your life), and more.

Should I expect to live to be 90 or 35 😛

P.S. I will exercise and wear orthopedic shoes.

i think that it all depends on how you manage stress.... my uncles are truck drivers and they are all well into their 60's and 70's so you cant believe everything you read...
as for pharmacist i have worked with the really young(fresh from school) and the experienced(late 60's) for the most part i thinkl it all depends on how you handle stress and how you take care of yourself. The pharmacist i work for has been a pharmacist for almost 30yrs and is in her mid 50's

You're choosing careers based on life expectancy? And very shady evidence out there at best to support linkages between the two factors...

I mean, as long as you're not fighting in the Army, you should live for quite a while... it'd also depend on your lifestyle habits and such.

Hehe, no, I never said this was the reason why I am trying to become a Pharmacist. If this was the case, then I would never have joined the Military and served 6 1/2 years...I'm just curious, calm down.

😀😀😀😀😀 lol.... you WERE kiddding, weren't you?

And if one does not die from natural causes due to stress and long hours, there is a chance to be stabbed to death by a junkie, whom you do not provide with his/her meds....

90 may sound reasonable 😀.
Cause as technology and medicine become more advanced, people will start living to see 90 years...

I worked with a pharmacist once who was 80!!

I can see a lot of people in this thread have a lot of stress already.

I can see how shift work would lower life expectancy. Anything that disrupts your circadian rhythms is going to have negative consequences. In addition to that, being out of rhythm can make it a lot harder to eat right and exercise.

I would definately prefer a 9-5 schedule than having to sporadicly work at 3am. Maybe its preference, but I think that the desire for a normal schedule is pretty universal.

And don't forget that pharmacists rarely take lunches. That can't help.

I've only worked with 2 pharmacists over 39, so that might give you some clue. The spontaneous trips to vegas and ridiculous drunken "ski" weekends probably don't help out the life expectancy very much...

Software engineers would have some of the highest life expectancies. Your hours are typically 9-5 which you would spend about half the time actually working and the other playing ping pong or foosball, working out at the on-site gym, etc. You are also likely to get catered lunches, whereas in pharmacy you might be lucky to even get a lunch break. Also, not having $200k+ in loans takes a lot of stress off you.
