So I know one of the most important things to do to get into med school is apply early, apply early, and did I mention apply early. What I wanted to know is does this necessarily mean applying the first possible day in June or does this mean June-July. I mean I hear from every premed I know that they are going to send in their application on June 1 as if a week later would kill their chances. I just want a definitive definition of what early means. I plan on taking an April or May MCAT in 2010 and applying in the 2010 cycle. This means I might apply mid to late June. Thanks for the clarification.

The earliest I have ever heard of someone being accepted was at the beginning of September. They must have had their interview in August. I can only imagine that they must have been complete in early July.

This is an extreme case, and SDN people tend to be over zealous pre-meds. I read a more reasonable post by an adcomm who said that roughly 25% of their accepted applicants come from the first wave of applications.

The reason applying early is important is the time it takes AMCAS to verify: 2-3 weeks if you submit June 2nd; 4 weeks if you submit July 1st; and 6+ if later.
