ok, so what is the most helpful classes i can take in preparation for medical school?
This is not to help with the MCAT, as all the basic pre reqs will help me with that.

I am looking for classes that will help me the most in my first two years of medical school (familiar material).

I have to decide between 6 courses in the following listed below. So what is the best courses listed below that will help me/prepare me for medical school.

Cellular Neurobiology
Functional Neuroanatomy
Nerve and Muscle – Toxins, Trauma and Disease
Cardiopulmonary Physiology
Endocrinology
Pharmacology
Human Reproductive Biology
Human Anatomy Dissection
Molecular Genetics
Molecular Regulation of Cell Function
Biochemistry of Disease
Introduction to Evolution
Immunology w/ Lab
Medical Microbiology w/ Lab

Of the 6 classes i need to take, in my opinion my best options are:
Immunology, endocrinology, pharmacology, cellular neurobiology, functional neruoanatomy, and medical microbiology.

Also keep in mind that i have already taken/plan to take absolutely required classes that are also helpful for medical school by my major such as

Physiology, pathophysiology, general microbiology, biochemistry, genetics, Cell biology, Groos human anatomy, along with all med school pre reqs (Physics, gen chem, gen bio, o chem, and calc/stats).

So of the above list what 6 classes will best prepare me for medical school (not the MCAT).

Any and all info/suggestions are much appreciated.
Thank you.

Human Anatomy Dissection would be a huge help, but make sure that it doesn't kill your GPA. Anatomy is the killer in medical school, and you're lucky that you have cadavers in undergrad!

I would say i am pretty good at anatomy, as i have taken 3 anatomy courses in undergrad all of which i received an A grade and used cadavers in all 3 courses.

Any other suggestions?

Why do you want to retread stuff you'll have to learn in medical school?

Take an English class. Or a history class. Or a language. Or...anything, really.....

If you HAVE to take the courses, I'd go with these: Immuno, pharm, both neuros, micro, and molecular genetics.

-I'd say English.

I have taken all my social/behavior/history/english/communication classes already, alongside that i hate anything non-science.

I happen to be really interested in these types of classes, that is why my major is "biomedical" versus a simple bio degree or even a non-science major.

Hmm... i absolutely hated the genetics course i took, any ideas on a substitute for molecular genetics?

Or would you say molecular genetics is different than just "genetics"?

Besides molecular genetics of the above classes you mentioned i had the same idea to take.

I just suggested it because genetics was one of my worst courses in ms1, and my classmates who took a couple genetics courses in undergrad found it to be pretty easy. It's definitely not necessary (it's not necessary to take any of those upper level bio courses you're considering) but it might help.

Maybe the cardio course? I haven't had cardio yet (starts in 3 weeks) but I've heard it's kinda rough, so maybe an intro to it would be good to have.

Ok, Ill probably end up going with the cardio or endocrinology course for my 6th class.

Thanks for the suggestions.

None of those classes well 'help' you for medical school any more than any other class in undergrad. You should take what you find interesting with your extra credits and not think another moment about it. If it is more science classes, then take more science. But, don't think for a second that it is going to appreciably make medical school easier or give you a leg up on people, because it won't.

already have taken 3 english courses.. thanks though 🙂

I don't think you get the joke, haha

But on a serious note, I am signed up to take a human cadaver dissection course at my school this year. From talking with the professor, he says that students that have taken it and are now in medical school say it is the most beneficial class they took during undergrad.
