What is the residency outlook for residency for AMGs with like 190?

So a lot of my facebook friends from school are posting they passed step 1, but lets say they got like 188-198..barely passing scores..what are the residency options for these people ? I understand from reading that international grads are probably doomed, but how about american grads with these scores? Are they still pretty much guaranteed a residency spot just in a less competitive place? With the SD being 22 (i think?) this year, this means that nearly 16% of US grads got under 200, huh?

Here's your 2009 specialties data. The 2011 one, which you can find on Google, is similar but I already had this one saved on my computer.

so according to this chart, no one under 200 matches, not even in like family med? i find that hard to believe, why is passing considered 188 then?

That's not what the graph is saying. The graph is showing quartiles.

Yeah, actually a better chart for you to look at would probably be the step 1 distributions for each specific specialty...then you can see the proportion of matched to unmatched for each score range. Just look up charting outcomes 2011.

why does that chart say that the probability of matching family med is 85% with a step 1 of 180? don't you have to pass it to match?

Two things.

That document is from 2011. Passing use to be lower than a 188.

Also those scores are first attempts only...so if you get a 170(and fail) but retake and pass and then end up matching your 170 shows up not your passing score in the table.
