I'm sitting down this dreary Saturday morning to begin my first draft of my personal statement and wondering what music I should be playing as I write?

Is this just another stall tactic, brain?!!

  • Run the Jewels comes to mind . . . Will it bring out confidence and activism or aggression?
  • Sigur Ros . . . Something dreamy and beautiful to bring out feelings of inspiration and recalling the twists and turns of my journey.
  • Tchaikovsy and Rachmaninov for grandiosity and romanticism?
What would you listen to and why?

Jon Hopkins - Singularity

Half joking, but it's a really beautiful electronic no vocals album that I have probably heard 50+ times between MCAT studying and essay writing

Tycho for me. 🙂 I have it on an infinite loop while studying. 🙂

Yep, Tycho for me too! Also Boards of Canada, Four Tet, Teebs, Floating Points, Burial, Shigeto, and KOAN Sound. I was getting dangerously close to just putting on "lofi hip hop radio - beats to study/relax to" and becoming a walking meme, but decided I should branch out and find some new electronica.

For writing personal statements and/or secondaries, use the following for guidance:

• Pre-writing/getting pumped up - Slipknot: unsainted.
• Reach school secondaries - DMX: what these b****** want
• Safety school secondaries - Ludacris - Move B****
• Paying secondary fees - Bone Thugs-N-Harmony: first of the month
• Tapping into emotional reservoirs - Shinedown: the crow and the butterfly
• When you lose sight of your goals - anything by Dr. Dre (because doctor)
• After everything’s submitted and waiting for interview invites - Bon Jovi: livin’ on a prayer

Will update as I think of others

It probably looks something like this considering I wrote it like a coked up squirrel the night before I had to travel for 2 weeks.
