Honestly, what the hell was up with the booing of the Canadian national anthem during the Raptors-Pistons Game at Detroit on Sunday? Sheesh. If we were to boo your anthem, you'd probably bomb us on the spot. Oh wait, maybe THAT's why our troops were bombed in Afghanistan

Seriously though, what do you guys think about that kind of stuff? I know all americans aren't like this, and that no one on this forum is, but would you say most of them are? I'm concerned since I may want to practice in the states some day, but if I'm going to be surrounded by a bunch of ignorant *****s as patients, I'll pass.

The whole thing about Canadians is, IMHO, just a long standing joke. People say, "Oh those stupid Canadians. The talk funny, plus it's cold there." Big deal, I don't know anyone who truly thinks anything bad about Canadians. It's like in Texas, where everyone makes fun of the Aggies, and tells Aggie jokes. No one really hates Aggies, it's just a long standing, joking sort of rivalry. I wouldn't take it personally. As for the booing of the national anthem, that is undoubtedly inappropriate. But it's a sports event! There's competetion! I don't think that reflects a general prejudice of the masses towards Canadians.

XenoXplant, well put. I think your opinion sums up that of the majority of Americans.

bad_hombre, I wouldn't worry about this being a problem if you choose to practice in the States. Of course, you will get people who will joke with you "What do YOU know doc?... your from Canada!" but they are really joking.

Booing an anthem is very tasteless and not appropriate in any situation. The fans just really get into the competition (way too much at times). It even happens in Canada. The Vancouver Canuks fans booed the USA national anthem in game 3 on Sunday night.

The media has the mindless sheeple hyped up into such a patriotic fervor, they tend to think other countries don't matter, nor should they exist.

If the Star-Spangled Banner was booed at a Canadian event, can you imagine the response of these same people? Holy cow, it'd be all out war.

On that note, I'd say you're likely to be surrounded by ignorant *****s pretty much wherever you go.

First of all, Detroit has always been a rough basketball town. They'd boo their own brothers if they were on an opposing team.

Most Americans love Canadians. But we're neighbors and siblings, and for sure there is a little sibling rivalry. But it is good-natured, for the most part.

As for practicing or studying in America, you'll get some "Oh you're from Canada? What's it like?" or "Is it really cold there?" kinds of questions, but that is because most Americans have never been to Canada or studied about it.

i think you're giving too much credit to a select few really sad, ignorant and clueless people at that game. i HIGHLY doubt that they even knew canadiens soldiers were being buried that day. just a few idiots with too much to drink, who thought they would be cool to boo the other team's national anthem. you'll find these fools everywhere you go, but luckily they are not the majority.

yeah, sorry if i came across as an ignorant myself. i didn't mean to insult anyone. i guess we've all been a little drunk at sporting eventsand it is easy to say/do stupid #%&*. the states is a wonderful country though with pretty cool people. plus i'd make three times as much over there for less work. ha. 😀

Hey, bad_hembra, booing may be tasteless but your initial post/remark was rediculous. Do me a favor and erase this entire thread and never write such nonsense again.
