If you are waitlisted at a school can you keep that wait till the next year to ensure a seat. If you were wailisted but a seat never came availabe, how would that effect you for the follow year at that school for entry?

Thanks, I'm curious here.

There was someone like this in the pre-dent forum. They were waitlisted at NYU and the next application cycle they were waitlisted again...never got in.

I wish i had never experienced the waitlist as well...but i was once in waitlist hell, never got off, and there was certainly no guarantee the next year...i did end up getting in, but had to do everything again, send letters of rec, blah blah blah...unfortunately waitlist is better than a rejection, but at the same time it keeps you hanging on. I wish i had good advice, but all i can say is if it doesnt work out this year, definitely reapply

In my understanding waitlist has no bearing on the previous year other than they already know you. You will still have to jump through the hoops and everything next year. Might I suggest that you keep up contact with the school and apply very early in the cycle next year (like as soon as you can).

I don't know about any other schools, but people on the high waitlist at Touro are often offered early admissions spots for the next year. I think you are out of luck at most other schools though.
