What is with the troll posts lately?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I think everyone hopes that they'll be amazingly studious in medical school. Although, from the looks of the allopathic threads, not going to class is a huge part of their success.

What are doing - or trying to do - in your spare time? I know once I start classes, games I like to play will be obsolete. Which is why Star Wars: The Old Republic is installed on my boyfriend's computer, not mine.. and my character is under his account. That way I can't get to it and play that instead of studying.

I'm still volunteering at a health clinic because I absolutely love it, also working at a supplies company (weird?) I like studying Histology and Biochemistry almost every day. Most importantly though I'm trying to figure out how I can get out of a relationship with an extremely clingy gf. I wish I was still with my ex gf that barely wanted to see me, we had such a drama free life. Any way as you can see I have some important tasks to take care of before medical school.

How did you get the volunteer position at the health clinic? Did you just google for free clinics in the area? What do you do there? I'm curious because I'm just trying to get into something like that this semester.

Good luck on ending the relationship. Not sure there's any easy way outta that, especially if she's clingy. :luck:

Well go to the EC section of my MDapp and I discuss a lot about volunteering and shadowing. You pretty much have to search for all types of clinics in your area. Call at least 10 of them, send them your resume and you should find a family practitioner who would give you an opportunity to volunteer/shadow in his clinic. Volunteering pretty much consists of taking vital signs, taking phone calls, direct patient interaction is a lot easier in these walk in clinics. The physician will even let you take blood pressure, test for hemoglobin levels etc... hospitals will not give you that type of direct contact simply because hospitals are more vulnerable to getting sued. Just remember in indigenous populations you will get more direct contact with patients because they just want care.

That's awesome information. Thank you 🙂

You're welcome! If you're applying pretty soon then you should read the entire mdapp excluding school information. I included information that I wish I knew before applying to medical school it would have made life a lot easier. Please let me know what you think.

I read it a week ago or so and thought there was a lot of valuable information. Hopefully more premeds will get an opportunity to read it. It's hard to get this information out there because you only learn such things through experience. I'm glad that some people are making an effort to help others through their experience

Extremely informative. Wonderful job! Definitely a ton of things to think about and add to the list of things I need to know 🙂 Also, since I've always wondered about my age, it's nice to see someone my age who's getting into medical school, although I still have a couple of years to go before my application cycle!

Haaaaa... nice try.

Also, the not-going-to-class thing is highly individual and somewhat school-dependent.

I hope not a school I end up attending. Not that I don't trust myself, but I tend to feel like if I don't go to lectures.. I won't learn anything. I've never really studied a subject independently, unless it's "read this whole textbook and know it all."

Sometimes, lectures = expensive nap time

I was AOA at Hopkins and dropped out because of Obamacare, now I changed my mind but I've only managed to get a transfer spot at a DO school - wat do? Also, Ron Paul.

For some reason, because this was the most random part of the post, it made me laugh really hard.

Oh, well, let's just have an immorality pissing contest, then. I . . . uh . . . what did I do?

I whacked off a badger. Or something.

I think the badger asked for it. What was it wearing?

That's where I am now. What fun!

Still having fun??

I just got back from volunteering. Went there right from work. I got to work with a couple of medical students. No clinical stuff yet - I've heard that happens more in the morning, so I'll be sure to go before classes - but it was still nice!

The trolls are certainly out today. I've found 3 troll posts today alone. They start off normal, and once they get a few responses, they wig out and make ridiculous comments. 👎

Is this the specific time of year for them or something?

My theory is (1) there are way too many virgins on SDN, or (2) all the people who comment on FoxNews articles decided to go pre-med 😀

I think a lot of the virgins get scared off by some of the bad apples here. My first post was considered troll-ish, because I was friendly and I guess, way too excited for a normal poster. I had a few problems after that, but I've feel I've meshed well here, for the most part. 🙂

Work is never fun.

I volunteered today instead! MLK weekend is a fun time to volunteer. I got to meet the governor and helped kids volunteer at the food bank. Tiring, but DEFINITELY more fun than work!

That sounds really nice! 🙂 Yesterday was really my first day ever volunteering, and it felt great. I felt like I was making a difference instead of just sitting around going, "Ya know, I should TOTALLY do <insert activity here>."
