If you automatically got accepted to every med school, and got a full ride, where would you go (you didn't even have to apply there in 'real' life)?

Me: Stanford

University of Tokyo

Berkeley

only if.

Stanford or UCSF. It is a toss-up.

I'd probably go fly out and tour the campuses of my current top choices, and then decide. I have a sneaking suspicion people are just choosing based on name recognition, and haven't been to the physical campus that they're choosing.

JH or UCSF ... Ha just thinking about a full ride to either of those is almost depressing.

Well I hope that the people who are voting for Stanford haven't seen it, cuz once they do, I don't think there's any turning back. That's one nice looking medical campus. People aren't bad looking either.

Buffalo!!👍

Some of us might have attended the undergraduate school of the university we'd like to attend.😀

I'll be at Harvard,

friends in MA, and women aren't bad. Not too hot, not too cold, and not ghetto like new haven or baltimore.

UCSF. And I have visited the campus, I love it.

I love how a lot of people have different #1 schools... makes me think i'll be 'happy' almost anywhere!

Touché. Do you go to UCR also?

Nah, I did grad school and currently work in LA though, so I'm familiar with the situation there... you currently have 1/2 of a med school anyways no? Did you apply to that program?

Oh, I most definitely applied to the UCR/UCLA Thomas Haider program. Extremely high up on my choice list, and my reason for attending UC Riverside.

Some of us go to undergraduate institutions without medical schools 😉

Sorry about that. 🙁 Just pointing out that some of us have seen/worked in the med school facilities pulling for. (And I don't think it hurts for people to go out on a limb and dream a little.🙂)

haha... no worries man, I love my institution even with its lack of a medical school. I'm actually surprised at the results; there aren't very many people who want to go to Harvard. I'm sure most people on SDN will be pleasantly surprised with where they end up going to medical school (hopefully myself included).

:luck:

Yeah, I'm surprised about the lack of Harvards/Johns Hopkins. Maybe those people don't stay up past 1am EST.

That's a great program, and as a UCLA undergrad I can honestly say that I wish we could apply for it, and that if you get it; you'll love Geffen. I study there all the time, I feel important just wandering around down there!!

I'm confused about how that program works. I thought it was BS/MD? Is it the same as a med school except only UCR ppl can apply?

I wish I'd applied to more BS/MD programs as a HS senior. I applied to one, got in, then turned it down (but for the best of reasons, I wasn't sure at that time that I wanted to be a doctor) but that was the only one I knew about (UW Madison). I think if I'd had the choice of BS/MD programs not in my hometown, I probably would have done one (like NU).

Cornell or Mt. Sinai based on what I've read about them so far.

My brother loved Cornell... I think it would be a great school in terms of the class and teaching style and the location is very nice as well, also one of my top choices.

Probably UCLA (in state cost and close to friends/fam) or Dartmouth.

But I have to say, I really REALLY love EVMS. Its hard core AWESOME

Right now: Northwestern or Chicago (such pretty pretty dreams)

But I agree that my preference is based mostly on reputation and geography. Never know where I'll be the best fit until I really scope schools out in depth. And I'd like to be a happy med student (to the extent that one can be), so I'd certainly give up prestige for happiness. I've met some pretty happy med students raving about Loyola and Rush. But it'd be quite nice to have such a decision to make. And I'd be open to leaving Chicago if I visited a med school that stole my heart.... So, who knows?

No longer BS/MD or anything. Basically any UCR student can apply to this program just like any other medical school (in fact, it's on AMCAS). The program takes 24 UCR students, and the first 2 years are done at UCR, the second 2 years are done at UCLA.

That sounds good, well good luck, your stats seem really competitive for any program so I'm not sure you'll need it 🙂

Thank you for the confidence 🙂

Nowadays, I think everybody needs luck in this process... hopefully someone takes me! I'd be ecstatic to get into any of the schools I applied to.

How many ppl actually take advantage of it? After I heard about it, I kinda wished that I applied there for undergrad.

Last year there were about 100-120 applicants for the 24 seats. Statistically much better than applying to UCLA directly, by more than an order of magnitude.
Ugh. That's idiotic. Goddamnit. UCR has some nice looking girls too and it's not like the weather would've been real different from Davis.

Ah well. What's done is done.

<shakes fist at God>
