Hello peers!
I am just curious to hear your thoughts. So I live next to Barry. But I didn't apply there. My top choice is Kent. I don't know why I dislike Barry, I guess the reputation bothers me? Am I being silly or unreasonable? How would you explain to your parents that you want to go to a school across country when there is one right next to me? Do you guys think its dumb not to take advantage of the close proximity?

Live at home and save money.

All the schools will give you what you need to pass the boards and get into a residency program.

I'm curious how the rumor mill can talk you out of Barry and into Kent.

If your parents are amenable to cohabitation then I think you should consider it. There's real money to be saved.

there are plenty of good things going on at Barry. Why don't you walk on over and talk to some 2nd and 3rd years? You can call admissions and ask for a tour. But, maybe you just need a change of scenery?

I see what you guys are saying. It wasn't specifically just the pod school that I was against, I like that Kent is based out of a huge university with so much going on. I will probably look more into Barry, but I already lived at home for undergrad. It was... meh. I hope y'all don't mind as the cycle progress's, perhaps I will PM some of you...?

Because Kent is a great school? As well as Barry is, as well as every other school that awards a degree in podiatric medicine.

 I think the OP is applying to Barry and wants less competition.

Barry is also based out of a huge university. Oh and did you also know that Kent State and the Pod school at Kent are only connected by name only? The campuses are 45 minutes away. Therefore, it's not like you will have all these awesome perks of being connected to Kent such as going to study in their libraries, work out at the gym and go to campus events....

We have our own medical library.; why would we need to go to an undergraduate library? We have our own gym memberships that the school purchases for us. There's a bus taking students to a Kent State tailgate and game in a few weeks.

I'm not trashing on Kent, I was replying to the OP who was saying a big factor in him liking Kent was that it is part of a university system. I just wanted to let him/her know that it isn't a big deal since most likely the connections are in name only. Heck, Temple's main campus is only 15 minutes away by bus but nobody goes up there to study or anything.

First, not that bad of an idea by the original commenter to dissuade people from the school he wants less competition, but most likely not gonna be successful.
Second, I realized that the Kent State Podiatry School was not on Kent State's undergrad campus (and not even relatively close to it) two days before I went on a visit. For me I like it b/c it is 30 minutes shorter of a drive for me from SE Michigan, but you are correct on the ability to do KSU campus events or their gym. Well, there is a small gym in the building, but nothing special. Yet again if it comes with the tuition just take it!

Yet, one positive of it not being on Kent State's campus is the library. If it was affiliated with Kent State they probably wouldn't even had bothered to put a nice library in the building. The girl that took me on the tour did say that they helped out the Kent State basketball and football team as a club like stuff Kin majors do.
