Hi folks,
Well, title pretty much says it. I'm a May 2009 college grad that has experience in health development via a couple post-bacc internships with NGOs in Latin America -- if it's in health development, I've probably done it: grant writing, program monitoring and development, medical donation logistics, interaction with health institution professionals, interviews, expository writing for websites, etc. I'm going to be applying for my MPH in GH Epidemiology with a focus on Infectious Disease (UWashington, UMich, UMinn, Yale, Columbia, Emory, Hopkins, etc).
Although I did a bang up job (if I do say so myself) interning in Latin America, neither organization had the funding to hire me. So, now I'm in that infamous unemployment limbo looking for a job. My question is: what sort of work should I look for? Some requisite info:
1. The job has to be professional, i.e. one I can put on my resume when applying for graduate school.
2. Has to fill my time between now and Fall of 2011 when I will (hopefully) enter graduate school.
3. Would be nice if relates to my career aspirations in Infectious Disease Epi.
I've already run the gamut of what I feel is relevant: CDC, NIH, various NGOs -- all of which either shoot me down for not having a Master's or "regret to inform me" that their budgets are basically in the toilet.
Yeah, I've looked into usajobs.gov, studentjobs.gov, idealist.org, etc. Also local universities for research. Again, a couple good looking positions researching infectious disease (viral, parasitic, vector-borne, bacterial, etc) but again, most want Master's degrees.
So as you see, I feel like I've exhausted my options and would love a couple suggestions/leads/whatever would get the ball rolling again.
Also, I guess it's important to say that while I'm not thrilled about the prospect of getting an internship again (I need some money to save for grad school, ya know?), I wouldn't totally count it out.
Any help would be much appreciated.
