What jobs are you holding, while in school?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Instrumentation Technician.

hahaha ummm wow I work at Abercrombie and Fitch

Do labs every hire undergrads for a wage? If so, I'll probably be doing that. If not that, maybe phlebotomist or random paid internships around town.

I don't know if it counts as a job, because it's easy as hell, but I run my own business. I hire people to go around town to garage sales, used book sales, etc. and then I sell the things on eBay for double and triple the price I bought them for! You'd be surprised what people will pay for a 15 dollar iTunes gift card! lol, you really would... I do bring in a surprisingly large amount, though!

Freelance writer/editor/translator; resident assistant with my school's ResLife program; Chinese restaurant cashier/waitress/hostess/etc. (when needed). Currently looking for another job so I can afford applications without taking out loans.

Med schools don't have application fee waivers?

Tutor employed by university- have set hours where students drop in... get paid even if no one comes

Tutor math at middle school- more like a teaching assistant than a tutor.

They do, and I may apply for them. But I don't know if I'll qualify, being employed and from a middle-class family. And it's more than just the applications - the interviews (if I get any) are a huge concern.

Ha-ooh! Ha-ooh! Ha-ooh!

Employed by the Spartan army (as an attendant to a soldier, soon to be promoted to hoplite)

I work as a research assistant in a Neuroscience lab. The pay isn't that great, but the experience is definitely worth it. Can't work more than 10 hrs a week while taking classes though otherwise it just becomes too much to handle.

I worked as an ER unit clerk during undergrad, 15-30 hours per week, depending.

Working part time for Apple, Physical Therapy Aide and Volunteering at New York Presbyterian 5 hours each week. Managing to maintain a 3.65... Some days, I don't even sleep or go home. I fall asleep while studying, then proceed to go to work. I really don't want to take out loans, which is why i work so hard.

Guess some have it easier than others- right?

I'm a pharmacy tech. It's so boring!! 🙁

I spent 1.5 Years at McDonalds.
1.5 years as a tutor.

And got paid for Student research for my final semester.

I'm a Lab Assistant in my school's science labs. I also hope to get a position as a Science/Math Tutor tutoring Gen Bio and Gen Chem. Not bad for sophomore year.

Was an R&D intern for St. Jude Medical until I had to move 🙁

I am a surgical technologist.
I'm a PCA working a solid 80hrs/week 3p-11p. Shadow while at work, volunteer/clubs 1hr week each and school full time on my two off days.🙂 It actually works out very well and I get 9hrs of sleep a night. But NO social life😳 A necessary evil....

I'm a home health aide as well as an ER scribe. Hoping to work around 30 hrs. during the school year. I keep myself really busy but I like it that way 🙂

I sell my plasma, write articles for money online, and have work study.

I was actually thinking about becoming a scribe but it does quite pay the bills. So I became I teaching assistant for one of the introductory labs at my university (since I am a masters student). Heard being a scribe is a great experience; good luck with that (my friends really enjoy it).

  • Two hospital positions -- one PRN as a BH specialist (not tech) and the other as a part time tech in the ED
  • Medical Support Tech in a small medical clinic
  • University Lecturer (I have my bachelor's)
  • Part-Time tutoring on campus
adds up to around 40-50 hrs/wk (along w/ my full courseload and other activities)

Server at Pappadeaux! woop woop

part time gigolo

Nurse's Aide/Unit Clerk on a surgical floor at a hospital. I volunteer and stuff too. I only work about 12-16 hrs a week though. Any more than that and my grades would probably suffer.

For three years of undergrad I worked full time at a supermarket in an Italian kitchen. Lame. Then I worked at an after school program and tutored. I quit the after school program and am now just a tutor.

Unemployed and intend to stay unemployed.

Cashier at the lovely HEB! (if you don't live in Texas or Mexico that probably means nothing to you)

CEO, Burrito Truck, LLC

So you work in the Spartan army full time? What about Kaplan?

Being awesome is pretty much a full-time job 😎. I try to make it to classes when I can.

XRay tech. Fun job, just had a gunshot victim. Got to follow it up to surgery. Good times.

Yes, they absolutely do.

For those who just can't cut it otherwise, sure is. Devote all your time to studying and nothing else and even my Australian Shepherd could pull a 4.0 as a Bio major... of course, she is a pretty smart dog and all....

I'm currently working a paid position as a Lab Tech doing HIV research (and for credit, too) until I graduate in December; right now I'm studying to challenge the CNA certification exam so I can get a job from January-August before med school.

Unemployed and intend to stay unemployed.

Wish I had that luxury. I have to find another job soon, and I already have hardly any free time. How do you do it?

You can't just be a phlebotomist, it does take training.. Granted only like 8-12 weeks, just so ya know though 🙂

I'm an ambassador for my school and a mentor.. minimum wage ftw.

During undergrad I was a TA for comparative vertebrate anatomy and I worked on weekends and in the summer as a respite care provider for kids with disabilities. Enjoyed both, but now I've been unemployed for a summer and will be (besides some work next summer probably) for the next four years until residency.

Undergraduate Laboratory Aide in research lab. Get published and get paid. They give me time off whenever I have an exam/need to study. Not leaving my lab until I graduate...

EMT-Paramedic in a 911 primary area. I get probably 36-48 hrs/week

Was a dental assistant, now looking for a new job

I work in a lumber yard. I cut orders for contractors and load rough lumber. not too bad but $10 an hour isnt much and my back kills.

what kind of shifts are you working and how much do you get paid? Im working on my emt-p and plan to take shifts my junior and senior year. and are you an EMT-b or P? your signature says basic.

Paramedic - that signature is old sorry about the confusion. I get paid 24/hr, and I work a swing schedule so I just take shifts as I can but usually a 24 on the weekend and a night shift during the week. During the summer I've been working nearly everyday though.
