What makes an LOR good?

"When I did speak to this student... it was a pleasure... sort of"

... Would be an example of a GOOD one.

Something that describes your personality and character traits. Nobody cares if you did well in so-and-so's class. You're a premed, you do well in every class. And so do all the other thousands of premeds sending their letters in. Also, they can tell that kind of stuff from your transcripts and test scores. They can't tell what kind of person you are so they are really looking for things that describe you non-academically in an LOR. Because of this you either have to lie or know someone pretty well to write a really good LOR. I suggest that you find someone who knows you pretty well outside of the classroom, or someone you can pay to lie about you. I got my best LORs from professors who I hung out with outside of school (played racquetball with one, went out drinking with another).
