Besides the fact that you can treat people and the pay?
This. Prior to becoming a premedical student, I was a computer science student. I would spend endless hours working on puzzles that stimulated my mind. In CS, I would attempt to find innovative and different ways of approaching each problem I saw. Having a family heavily engrained in medicine, I never quite considered how beautiful of a puzzle the human body is. About half a year later, here I stand, elated to solve the various puzzles I'm presented with. The science and critical thinking behind it. Without taking into account the humanistic side, learning about physiology and then applying this knowledge to real world cases is fun to me. I also like the challenges that arise in treating people. Guidelines exist for all sorts of diseases, but what happens when you have a patient that doesn't really meet those guidelines or has unique contraindications. I like having to find new ways to solve the problem.
