What mcat should I aim for with this given gpa?

Non-Science

Science
3.42
Cumulative

Assuming that my ECs and PS are mediocre, what is the lowest MCAT score that will get me accepted somewhere? (DO only)

I would say 25, but you should definitely be aiming for a 30+ so you can get into your top choice. 25 might get you into a school you don't really wanna go to.

Well I'd say a 25 would be the minimum to put you into the competitive range. However that being said a 27+ would probably make your life a lot better. And a 30+ would qualify you a good shot at both DO and MD.

Note that the average accepted score is about 27 for DO.

I would say 23, but you would have to apply to EVERY school in order to get a good chance at acceptance. If you get at least a 28 I would say you could apply to 5 schools; likely get 2 interviews, and likely 1 acceptance

I'd agree with this.

23 = decent chance, apply broadly
25 = good chance
28 = like this poster said, you have an amazing chance (I would still apply to more than 5 schools though...just in case...each added school is just one more essay and 75 more dollars)

Yeah, don't listen to people that exaggerate what it takes to get into a school. You will probably have a decent shot with the ranges DrDre2001 provided. Anything above a 23 (at the right schools) will give you a good chance. People go nuts on here saying that you must have a 28+ to get into a D.O. program. This is true for a very few schools, but most of them have averages much closer to 25-26. If you look back over the years, D.O. schools have always been right around there. The best idea is just to do the best that you can and apply as broadly as you can to see what happens.

What score will get u in is one thing but what score should u aim for is another.

Always aim for the 45...be the best of the best. Sure u might not get the 45 and just end up with a 30 (boohoo)

but if you aim for that 27 u might just end up with a 22 and be screwed.

Always aim for the top. Just my 2 cents. Your gpa is great tho..

Aim for the best, deal with the result. No need to "shoot" for anything really. Plus, after a series of practice tests, you should know roughly where you could fall.

Implicit in all of this, beyond mcat and gpa, is that you have the extra-currics; shadowing, volunteering, clubs, leadership positions, etc. A good personal statement can also go a long way 😀<<<<<<<<<!

I post above what MCAT I thought you (op) could have and have a decent chance, good chance, and amazing chance at getting into DO schools.

Like a few other posters here, though, I hope you don't "aim" for any particular score. Just do your best. Don't stop studying hard once you start getting 25's on a practice test (that is the score that I think would give you a "good chance" at DO schools). Just keep studying hard.

And if you get a 30 or above, you can then apply to MD schools.

dre- just because one gets above a 30 does not mean they would rather apply to MD schools. In fact, I think the poster said he only preferred DO schools. I chose DO because I thought the osteopathic philosophy and practice agreed with me better than that of allopathic. I would hope you are not going DO because you cannot go MD.

Dre wasn't saying anything bad about DOs...we all love DOs...but it's been proven many times that MDs may tend to have a few better opportunities in terms of fellowships and whatnot.

😴.....it is the assumptions and stereotyping I am addressing, not whether one or the other is better, thanks though. In fact the sky here is very overcast, no blue anywhere
