greetings once again. so, after talking with one of my PIs today, i'm ~95% sure that i'm applying strictly MD/PhD for this cycle. one concern i have though, is that i'm only doing this ONCE, and i want to be as successful as possible (i.e., more acceptances = more options). for this reason, i would like to know which schools, in your experience, are known to offer MD-only acceptances even if you don't pass muster for the dual degree programs.

my stats, for whatever its worth:
BCPM GPA: 4.0
non-science GPA: ~3.96
MCAT: 35S (12PS 12VR 11BS)
bio major at dime-a-dozen state school in ohio
2 yrs research-- good exp, lots of autonomy in lab, no pubs 🙁

schools i'm considering applying to:
Case Western
Dartmouth
Northwestern
Ohio State
Univ. Cincinnati**
UPenn
UPitt
Vanderbilt
Wake Forest
WashU StL
Wright State
...maybe Yale and Hopkins for laughs 😉
**MD-only: MSTP requires a full year of calc (wtf??)

my chances???

if there are any details i should fill in for you guys, just ask or PM me.

thanks a million, as always!

Don't sell yourself short. Barring any unforseen inabilities to interview, bad essays, or crappy LORs, you will do excellently. To actually answer your question though, of the schools you listed that I remeber:

Case Western - Rare
Northwestern - Rare
UPenn - Very rare
UPitt - Common, MD and MD/PhD separated
WashU StL - Common, frequent interviews given to MD/PhD rejects
Hopkins - Very rare

oh, and another question: does it make me sound scatter-brained/unfocused to check 3-4 boxes on the AMCAS screen regarding PhD programs the applicant would be interested in? for most, i've selected cell bio, immuno, and pharm, but i've also selected pathology when it comes up (some schools don't have this option).

is this ok/problematic, or does it bascially not matter at all?

thanks again.

neuronix--thanks for all the info as always. 👍

just bumping to see if anyone else has experience with this...
