Hello everybody,

I have recently joined the studentdoctor network and just finished reading every single topic of the 14 pages in this thread. You are all truly fascinating; and although I do not know you all personally, I must say that you all seem very determined, and will be very successful.

My question for all of you in the process of applying or have already applied, is WHAT schools are you applying to and WHY? I feel like that really hasn't been directly asked and responded to as a community. Note: I am not asking for your credentials or the schools that chose you because that may be too personal. I am only asking for the schools you chose!

Ex: I am a junior and I am taking the MCAT this summer. I live in New York state and I intend to apply to AT LEAST the medical school of my undergraduate institution, all of my state's public medical schools, Morehouse, Meharry, and Howard. This is BOUND to change because I haven't taken the MCAT yet. I intend on applying to 20 schools...and winning the lottery to pay for my application fees

Your turn 🙂

Well...I'm not the most competitive candidate considering my general stats (waiting on MCAT retake) and overall application. I will apply to my state schools (MD and DO), Meharry, Howard, Morehouse, GWU, Albany Medical, different DOs (need more research) but these will depend on fit and mission statement. My dream school has always been JHU because of it's curriculum, clinical exposure, and research. Some reaches but I am interested in their research/clinical opportunities are: Case, Vanderbilt, Baylor, Emory, and Standford. DO research-based curriculums TCOM, OSUCOM, and MSUCOM. Others on my radar: SUNYs, Mt. Sinai, Tulane, Yale, Harvard, maybe Duke (keep changing my mind about their curriculum), most if not all Texas' schools, UAB, USA, Tulane, WashU (maybe be way out of reach unless I appy MD/PhD which I have decided against). Thought about Penn State, Pitt, Tufts, BU, Columbia, USF, UCSF, Chicago, Loyola. I just really plan to apply early and to as many places as possible. Of course, this will depend on my MCAT too, so that I am not totally naive. I am mainly interested in schools with early clinicals so I can apply my basic science knowledge and research because I still have interest in it.
