Hi,

Can someone please help me out.

I am not an American citizen but I would like to go to medical school in the states. I am still in high school.

Can you please tell me if it's mandatory to do pre med before going to medical school. If not, what are the medical schools in the US to which I can apply to that don't require pre med and what would be there requirements.

Thanks so much.

You have to have a bachelor's degree from a university. If it's not an American or Canadian university, then you would also need to have a minimum number of credits from an American or Canadian university (usually 90 credits, but sometimes as little as 30). You don't have to major in pre med. In fact, most people wouldn't recommend a premed major.

Also, moving to hSDN

ETA: The exception, of course, is combined a BS/MD program here in the US. I have no idea if they consider international applications though

Thanks for your reply 🙂

But are there any medical schools in the US that don't require you to do pre med or have bachelor's degree to be accepted.

There are a small number of combined 6-7 year Combined BS - MD programs out there. But apart from those, there are no 4 year US med schools that are going to take you without a college degree, having taken the prereqs, having taken the MCAT, etc.
