What mode for Qbanks?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yeah I'm doing Kaplan's untimed tutor mode just because I consider this time "learning" time so it's not going to help answering all the questions in a block and then having to go back through the explanations from the beginning. Plus I don't really care about the timing at this point, I care more about the explanations for each answer.

I also plan on doing UWorld questions timed during dedicated study period.

untimed tutor for all qbanks. although it's not a bad idea to run through a few unused blocks of UW in timed random mode during dedicated time just to make sure you have a sense of what the test will be like, because that's the closest you can get to the real thing in terms of content, look, and overall realistic exam experience.

I used to do untimed tutor but have switched to timed tutor. I usually end up finishing a block with ~25 min left. I just found that doing it in untimed mode I was too prone to get too wound up in analyzing the question. My performance didn't appreciably change. I'm not a fan of regular timed mode - I like to see the explanation immediately after so I remember my exact train of thought and whatnot

Do USMLE Rx in tutor-mode.

Do Kaplan and UWorld timed.

Always do random questions.

When doing random mode, what do you do about questions that haven't been covered in your coursework yet? Maybe just skip them? Also..is the best way to learn/retain material from Qbank questions just to annotate the explanations in First Aid?

I'd still go at random through USMLE Rx, even if you haven't covered those topics in class yet.

Subject-wise throughout the year however, I'd stick to doing Webpath and Robbin's Review of Path questions.
