ok, so im planning to start studying for the OAT. i will be taking the exam next year. im not sure about what study books to buy right now. im not really looking for practice exam books right now but rather for books that review the concepts we need to know in each section of OAT(eg.bio, chem, phys,...)
could you guys help me out by suggesting a source that can help me review my stuff before i start taking practice tests?

Hey, ive just started studying as well and the best book for what you need is the Kaplan review notes book and its a big book (over 1000 pgs) covering each section of the OAT. It is available along with the Kaplan course ($1300) or you can find it on the SDN classifieds (I got the entire pkge for $160). Not sure how easy it is to just find the one book by itself, but the Kaplan DAT review notes book (about $60) is available at book stores but does not include physics.
Good Luck!🙂

OAT destroyer is worth the money! and it resells easy, so I highly recommend it! It really helped me a lot. And if you are good at physics already, and find a DAT destroyer cheaper, use it! That is actually what I used because I was strong in physics, and it was sooo helpful. I completely owe my high scores to the destroyer! It was way better for me than the OAT kaplan material, which I also had. Good luck!:luck:

i already took the OAT and bombed the bio section. The kaplan course did not help at all for that section. i was wondering if anyone found a book/source that helped them prep better for the bio section

Kaplan's big review book really helped me, especially for Gen Chem and Organic Chem. The Bio section was all right though, but it doesn't really cover everything on the test (I got a 290).

The bio section was my greatest challenge too. I actually found the Kaplan DAT book to be pretty helpful with reviewing for the bio, chem, and organic chem sections. I had the Kaplan OAT book too, but I thought the DAT book went into much greater detail reviewing the material covered in each section.

If you want to save money, buy the Kaplan MCAT Review notes:

MCAT Physical Sciences Review Notes (covers Physics and Chemistry)
MCAT Biological Sciences Review Notes (covers Biology and OChem)

Even if it is an older edition, it is exactly the same as the giant OAT and DAT Kaplan books. The only difference is it is in two separate books and easier to carry around, and since it is MCAT, it is easier to find. They have it used on amazon.

😍 These videos by Chad are as good as a prep course. I used these videos exclusively and hardly touched my review books:

Unfortunately he does not do physics, but OAT physics is a joke anyway (compared to MCAT). For practice tests, I recommend OAT Destroyer, and agree with everything AFH09 said. Hope this helps. Good luck!!

I used to OAT destroyer and took the kaplan class($1300) and have a smaller kaplan book. It was amazing to use all the resources together. My fave was the flashcards that I got from kaplan. Go to the ads section on SDN because people sell their stuff all the time. I'm selling mine 🙂 for super cheap too haha. But yeah invest in Kaplan and the destroyer and you'll be golden.

Does OAT Destroyer include RC? cuz I couldn't find one that does. Also, does it come in CD or just book?

The Destroyer does not include a section on the O.A.T.'s reading-comprehension segment. As far as I know, only a printed version of the book is available.

Hi AFH09. That's exactly the book I got--the oat destroyer. But i am having trouble studying from it..it's so overwhelming! It's a giant book full of multiple choice questions, not really a study guide. My question is, how did you study from it? The destroyer just asks you questions and doesn't really explain/teach thoroughly... Did you just look up further explanations from your university books (i.e. organic chem textbook)?

Hi Everyone,

I am new to this forum and I just recently decided to go into optometry (I am entering my fourth year at MSU studying physiology).

So, I am trying to study for the OAT. It is proving to be a difficult task in finding available materials to study.

But, I did find one gem after a lot of google searching.

It has practical questions and gives good explanations for why the answer is the correct one.

The website is http://www.studybarn.com/StudyGroups/OAT/ and it is free when you make a profile.

Good luck studying and I hope I stay motivated 🙂
