Im a first year pharmacy student, and was wondering what the more experienced P3's, P4's, or new pharmacists think of the different organizations that are available for us to join. Has anyone found it beneficial to be part of an organization? Has it helped during the job searching process? Thanks guys

Many people will bash APhA here, but I think it's the organization that you can get the most out of as a student (people may or may not say the same for as a pharmacist). There are so many things you can do: patient care, world health issues, even some advocacy. Now this is if you don't just join but if you actively participate. Unfortunately, it has not yet helped me jobwise, as I'm still stuck as a retail intern, but I think it has exposed me to some interesting topics in pharmacy that I otherwise wouldn't know much about.

Edit: oh, didn't see you were talking to P3s/P4s. I guess my post is irrelevant then.

I joined APha-ASP just because you get the reimbursement for going to national, as well as the weekly free pizza lunch&learn pays for itself. And yes, there they offer the largest number of volunteer opportunities.

ASHP was also a no brainer when I fell in love with my hospital internship. Here again, the reimbursement for going to mid-year pays for itself and more.

But no organization will offer you more learning opportunities and networking opportunity than a good internship would.
