Hi I'm a former iPhone user and current android owner and have been thinking about switching back for some time now (mostly due to all of my family/friends having iPhones and not being able to seamlessly get group messages/mms/etc...) Have you guys noticed any difference in the quality/quantity of medical apps available in Google Play vs itunes? Do some EMR's support iPhone more vs Android? Any general opinions about which is handier in the hospital or does it really not matter? I used to have a note which I enjoyed for the s-pen but I have small hands so I got a Sony Xperia Z3 last year so I could text/type/do things one handed again. Thanks!

I think your carrier probably matters more as far as getting good reception, but what carrier is best depends on where you're located. Assuming you have a good or reliable carrier, then I don't think what cell phone you use is as big a deal. Probably more personal preference. Also which ones offer more of the (medical) apps you're likely to use. I like Android a lot and so I've mostly used the Samsung Galaxy S series.

Just a friendly warning: If you're a med student or even resident, at least in my experience, a lot of attendings (especially the older ones) don't like it if you are your phone while you're with them! I'd try not to be seen. Even if you're doing something legit, it might not always appear to them that that's what you're doing. In my opinion an iPad mini would work better here.

Pick the platform you like better. You can get anything you need on either platform.

As @bashwell says, carrier is a much bigger issue so maybe wait until you start before you make any changes since you might need to change your carrier to get reception in the hospital.
