I'm not in med school yet, so I can just tell you what I've found useful in my pre-med classes and what med students have suggested to me....

While many software packages are generally useful, some depend on what class you are interested in and where you plan to take that class.

For example, OneNote might be useful for taking notes if you take notes on a computer. Net Transport might be useful for downloading streaming video. Enounce is great for speeding up streaming video. Adobe Acrobat is great for marking up PDF handouts. I like Mindjet MindManager for organizing information.

Which test generator do you use? I've tried a few "flashcard" programs, but haven't found one I liked yet.

So far, my best tool has been MS Word, just typing up outlines. Pen and paper have also been handy. 🙂

I have used RecallPlus in the past (in my pre-med classes) and liked it quite a bit, particularly because it worked seamlessly with graphics (overlaying text on anatomy diagrams, etc).

I use Mindjet Mindmanager on a research project and could see using it instead of RecallPlus for non-graphic overlay questions (it would be quicker and more organized as long as text doesn't need to be overlayed on graphics as in labeling anatomy). For labeled graphics, I found RecallPlus hard to beat.

I like old fashioned pencil and paper. If I want to get fancy I'll use colored pencils.
