I interviewed at MUSC and really liked it...and LOVED Charleston. I don't think they usually have problems filling at all. The only thing was that this year they were losing their Department chair, and still hadn't found a new one (at least when I interviewed). I know my Department chair tried to steer me away because of that fact alone. But still, I loved it and ranked it highly.
MUSC is very surprising. Their coordinator told me that they interviewed a lot of extra people this year because they worried about the effects of losing the Chair.
To me, there are several things about the program that I didn't love. Probably the worst was the salary ($36 k), which is low in general and especially for an expensive place like Charleston. The salary was slated to increase for 2007-8, but the amount was not known when I went there.

Wow...lots of decent programs didn't fill. Hard to predict how this goes down.
University of Michigan didn't fill? Is this common?
It seems every year there are a couple of good midwest programs that do not fill. And, it's not always the same program. I do not think "this is common" for Michigan in particular, though there have been times in recent years when they have had one or two spots still open. I remember they did not fill the year before I was in the match.
I think it has more to do with geography and the fact that psychiatry is still a buyer's market than the program itself. Michigan is a solid residency program.

They also have 10-12 spots to fill each year.

Exactly, I was going to guess that it was probably due to so many positions being available. I'm wondering if that may be along the same lines of why Case Western had 2 unfilled spots, while Cleveland Clinic (right across the street) had none. Case takes 8 residents, while I believe the Clinic takes 6.

Nobody wants to move to Oklahoma. 🙁 I Wonder why. 🙂
What happened with UF?
They forgot to certify their ROL.
I just got a note in my mailbox that someone replied to a thread I was subscribed to. My immediate response was "oh no, I was posting while drunk again!" Well, I completely forgot about this now-resurrected thread. And I forgot about U FL forgetting to certify their list. That brings back a good laugh. I mean, talk about an "oops!"They forgot to certify their ROL.
