Hey

I have a measly score of 202...now that most of my doors are closed. I'm just wondering which ones are open? If anyone has a general idea, any help would be useful.

family medicine, psych, internal medicine, and peds are still open.

path, pmr are doable too

rads, ophth, derm and stuff like that are probably out of the question now. although with some kick ass grades and letters, you might be able to land a spot. it'd be tough though

Don't forget about step 2.

Look in the mirror and tell yourself over and over that your still going to be a doctor and you can do whatever you want. Whatever you do, don't settle for something you don't want to do b/c of one score. After all, it is just ONE test score. It certainly shouldn't dictate the rest of your life - and you really shouldn't think that its going to. Furthermore, you shouldn't let people you don't even know tell you that it will.

If you want to do the most competitive residency out there - talk to the PD at your institution and find out what you can do to make yourself more competitive. You might have to spend an extra year or two doing research but, hey thats nothing compared to what you have already spent on your education. Additionally, you might not get into the most prestigous spot for that specialty but, don't go into psych, medicine, family med, peds b/c you think you have to.

Give yourself a healthy dose of self confidence - "I can do it, I can do it, I can do it", stop the pity party and get out there and do whatever it takes.

I can understand everyones fears about matching since we are all in the midst of ERAS but, I can't understand why people come on here and ask others to predict if they can do X, Y or Z based on their step scores and grades. No one can predict for sure based on just those factors and asking total strangers to do so is insane.

I find it utterly amazing that everyone who doesn't score a 300 on Step I thinks the world has suddenly come to an end. Lots of residents get lots of great residency spots with Step 1 scores near the mean. Step 1 (and Step2) is only a part of your application. There are superb doctors that don't test well, but are super fantastic when it comes to pt care and knowlege. They just don't test well. Then there are those who are not as bright but who have a knack for testing and can ace even the most challenging exam. Don't sell your self short... don't settle for bottom tier choices. Go for the gusto and maybe you'll get your dream program. Good luck.

Id say you would have a chance at almost anything, but the top five or so could be hard depending on your other info, there is more to a person than a step one score. Dont write yourself off just yet.
