i was just wondering which are the top 5 D.O. schools or which do most of you think are?

As far as abstract US News rankings the publics are mentioned, Michigan, Texas, OSU, Ohio, and WVSOM. Among the privates: Kirksville is the oldest; DMU is in a a safe, friendly midwestern city and has good OMM; UHS is totally systems-based; PCOM has great facilities; New Jersey is small and well respected; UNECOM is in scenic Maine; NYCOM has noted clinicals; Chicago and Arizona have real campuses w/ on-site housing; Nova is in southern Florida if you can out up w/ mandatory class attendance. Basically, there are no "official" rankings and you should go where you feel most comfortable.

Think careful lthough before you attend a brand-new school, i.e., LECOM-Florida or Touro-Vegas. VCOM has brought in top administrators but still had a bumpy road its inaugural year. It's exciting to be in the first class of a new medical school, but like a first model year car, some of that excitment will be lost working out the kinks.

I know this isn't what you want to hear but it all depends on whats important to you and your own situation. For insance if you have a state funded school go there. Saving 15K+ in tuition a year can pretty much offset any negative things (as far as school quality goes). If you want to be a rural family physician then a school like OSU is solid choice, especially if you like in Oklahoma.

If all things were equal (tution, location, etc etc) I would say KCOM, PCOM, UHS, are TCOM (Texas) are all can't miss schools. But thats just my opinion. For instance some people may not have UHS on there but I do because I live in kansas and have met alot of their grads, all of whom were very happy and succesful. A person on the west coast could easilly substitute Western for any of the above schools for the same reason.

True that. The number one DO school in California is COMP.

I would stay away from MD schools.

Those places have issues.


BTW: this is a common theme on here. Do a search and you will find a myriad of opinions...no one persons worth more than anothers...except for mine. I'm never wrong.

It took alot for me to resist the socal factor. Oh well there's always residency and actual practice!

Yes the socal factor is strong and a large determinant in where I go to medical school.
