what should i do this summer?

im having trouble figuring out what i should do this summer. any suggestions? if i can get a head start on making me more competitive for the match, i'll gladly do it!

If you have your heart set on Emergency Medicine, and I'm assuming this is the break between M1 and M2 year, then I dont' think you need to do any research, unless you truly love that stuff. I suggest taking the time off and relaxing.

Never once did my attendings ask any students what they did the summer of their M1 year.

I'd say Travel (Other). If you have to justify it with a study abroad program, so be it. I'm still kicking myself for thinking I'd be able to save money in my first summer. Should've gone to Thailand, or at the very least gone and done a French immersion program in Quebec City (I'm in Montreal). 🙄

thanks for the input so far, guys!

the caveat is that i wanna match into california. would it be better to establish contacts back at ucla by doing a clinical work study thing this summer there, or would it be better to show myself as a worldly individual whose spanish functions in the real world?
