Hi everyone,

I am in the process of applying for 2010 admissions for Texas dental schools. I plan to take DAT in early June and I pretty much have everything set other than waiting for my LORs to be completed and sent out and finalizing my essay.

After I take the DAT, I will be taking off to the Philippines for dental and medical mission trips with a top plastic surgeon in PI along with his colleagues. I am hoping to learn a lot from this experience, it will be my first time traveling to PI and having any kind of involvement in a mission trip. It's all too exciting and I really can't wait!

But, my question is if I should delay my application until I come back in early August or just send it in before I leave? I have read everywhere that I should turn it in as soon as possible to avoid any processing delays, but will it really affect my chances of getting an interview? I have a decent amount of volunteer/experience work, but it all occurred after I had graduated from college (a year ago). I know after I return I will have gained more experience in the healthcare field and more to speak about in my essay. I'd also like to have the doctor I will be working with write me a letter if possible. So, should I wait? or just get it out of the way so I can enjoy this trip?:soexcited:

If you are worried about your mission-type trip not being on your app, you can include it on your app with your start date and mark it as "future" or "ongoing."

I would turn it in early. Its really early bird gets the worm with some of the schools. Also keep in mind DS is becoming very competitive with the number and caliber of applicants.
