I paid to take the On-site Kaplan DAT review course a long time ago and a few months ago I decided to pick a date to start with this review. Yesterday the Kaplan representative called me to let me know that my class was cancelled. He told me that my only options are:

1) Live Online
2) On-site, BUT very far and off hours.

I don't know what to do... I've always thought that in person is much better and maybe grasping information is easier, but the representative told me that in students scores on the real DAT it didn't make a difference whether it was online or on-site. Can you please advise... Has anyone participated in either form that will be willing to clarify for me the best option?

I am not just placing all my eggs in one basket, I am also going through Chads, destroyers, and Cliffs. I just want to score high on the DAT's.

Thank You Everyone!! 🙂

I would request my money back....

Not a fan of Kaplan...I never used it due to poor reviews, but had many friends in dental and medicine take the classes and they all felt like they threw money down the drain...

Stalk the DAT boards here and compile resources used from those who were successful...it will save you time and plenty of money...

I personally found the on-site class to be somewhat helpful but mostly unnecessary. My teacher was really good with Bio/Chem but not so much with the other subjects. I mostly self studied the material out of various study books.

However, I really liked the Kaplan tests/quizzes/workshops. I feel like for everything (but Bio & Perception), Kaplan is true to the real DAT & they give you tons of practice as well as give you good full length practice. I thought it helped me get the score I wanted & was worth the investment.

But, like TwentyTwelve mentioned, there are plenty of great resources out there that don't cost as much as Kaplan for the DAT material.

Classroom experience was a waste of time at kaplan. I traveled 160 miles roundtrip to the nearest center, twice a week, for 3 mos. My teacher was a dental student who had no clue what she was teaching, if it wasnt for the lesson plan provided by kaplan, she would've been completely been lost. As far as the online resources, use the full length exams and quizzes for practice. Their science material is a bit outdated. Invest in Chads, CDP, and Destroyer. With the right discipline and dedication, these resources will land you a good score. Good Luck!

Definitely get your money back. My sister took TBR MCAT classes, so many of my friends took Kaplan classes since at Berkeley there is the promo of $500 off for certain student organizations. In all honesty most of these courses are for college students who just need to have someone looking over their shoulder to make them study. If you have motivation and self discipline, these courses don't teach you much if anything. The books are usually not too bad though (and you can usually get them on ebay for less than the course price)

If you can get your money back. If not take the online courses, since a long travel time might not seem like a big deal the first time you do it, but it gets on your nerves really fast!

I should also mention that I tutor at a non franchised location for SAT/ACT and subject tests and so many kids come to our center after feeling like they wasted a thousand bucks at Kaplan or Sylvan. If they can't get easy stuff like the SAT right, what hope do they have of doing things like the DAT or MCAT?
