I am applying to be a scribe and the application requires an essay. However, it does not give me a prompt. All it says is short essay (1000 characters). What should I write about? Should I write about why I want to be a scribe (the benefits, how it will help me acheive my career goal of becoming a physician) or what qualifications/experience I have that would make me a good candidate? Should I write about both?

one or the other or both, 1k characters isn't that much, but try to integrate both IMO.

I supervise the scribes in the ED I work at and honestly your essay should focus on what attributes and skills you have which will make you a good scribe. A brief mention that you are interested in pursuing a career in medicine will suffice. To be a great scribe you need to be efficient, accurate, flexible, and very detail orientated. You need to be able to multitask well and work well in a high stress environment. Prior knowledge of medical terms and billing are a plus.

1. Open Bates' physical exam book to any random page
2. Retype ~1000 characters of it
3. End with "I typed this in under 2 minutes"

Scribe skillz right there.
